Pours a clear straw color with a hint of orange to it. Head foams up to a finger and a half in height and white in color. Good head retention with great lacing left behind. Aroma is pale, pilsner, and bread malts. Hint of herbal hops. Flavor profile is pale, and biscuit malts that open, before leading way into a more full notes of bread, biscuit, and pilsner. Herbal hops open up with dank hops closing. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a crisp, blunt edge that is neither smooth nor grainy. Overall, a smooth beer that balances hops and malts well, offering a dynamic, but simplistic aroma and flavor profile. All those combined, it makes for pleasant enjoyment.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 16oz can.

From the Advent calendar. Poured into a snifter. A slightly hazy golden color with a modest white head that lingered for a bit. Lemony and floral hoppy notes on the aroma. Some spicy elements as well. Moderately bitter and floral on the first sip with a soft, muddled finish. Some bready flavors but the malt seemed somewhat obscured to me. Some apple on the finish. This one confused me.

From the 2016 Advent German Beer Calendar purchased at Costco. From the can, it pours dark amber with a nice head. A bit of malt and hops in the nose. Malt in the mouth. Yum!

2017 update: Yum!

From the 2016 German Beer Advent calendar

Rich reddish amber and cloudy ( obviously unfiltered) Nice head and lacing.
Toasted malts and some faint spicy hops.
Sweet malts with some light roast nuttiness and dried date fruitiness. Slightly spicy hops take the edge off all that sweetness nicely.

Smooth feel with no real indication of a higher abv than say a German lager.

Solid example of the style

Day 9 Advent. Even though it is day 10. 500 ml poured into a weihenstephan glass. Clear gold with a one finger head that moves quickly to a thin lace. The aroma is pale malts, light grains. The taste is the same, with a tinge of grass. The feel is light and smooth, the carbonation is low. Decent.

From Costco's Beer Advent Calendar. In Teku glass. Playing Technobabylon. Slight sweetness, with some caramel notes along with molasses and a nice finishing bitterness. Superb aroma, great drinkability.

Herrnbräu Jubiläums-Sud poured with little head, though what did pour stayed for some time. It's a darkish ruby color until direct light is on it. I'm trying to use the SRM color scale more- looking at this lager with light, I think it is around 12. The darker color makes it appear less clear, but it can be seen through when a direct light is shone upon it.

A fairly prominent malt smell rises out of the glass. It's somewhat grainy, somewhat sweet smelling. I get some light aromas associated with darker malts- a little bread, a very light bit of chocolate, maybe even caramel.

Most of the aromas do not translate to the taste. I don't get any chocolate notes, and definitely not any caramel. The beer is not particularly sweet, though there is a grainy character from the malt. I do detect a light hint of nuttiness in the flavor, mostly on a long swallow. Some bitterness also comes through here.

Overall, I find Herrnbräu Jubiläums-Sud a little lacking. It has much less body than I'd expect. It's low on smell and taste. It looks okay, but the darker color may be contributing to expectations of greater flavor. Still, if you wanted a darker light tasting beer (or a lighter tasting dark beer, I suppose, maybe this is for you.
