Visited on a Thursday evening after dinner.
The place to come in town for a good beer. Bottom line, tick of a few beers from their great tap list and move on.
V - The music , the TVs, the layout and decor give off sports bar/pick-up joint vibe. Clean and bright enough. Covert Artisan Ales across the parking has a better vibe. 3.75
Sel - This place has a great tap list with a good local/upper Midwest selection, US and international. And an extensive bottle list. 4.5
Ser - Not always attentive. Low knowledge. Servers more worried about their friends than those customers who are not regulars. 3.75
Q - Varied glassware and clean. 4.5
F - Do not have a Philly Cheesesteak in Sioux Falls. 3.5

Having been to the Independent Ale House in Rapid City, the day before, when viewing the T.V. screen beer menu, it's obvious there is co-ownership, between the two tap houses, and this a good thing. There is more outdoor seating here, but the atmosphere is warmer, at the Rapid City location. Both have high quality, national and local micro brews on 50 taps, and should be a priority to visit, while in town.

I am now traveling to Sioux Falls for work on a regular basis and have been enjoying trying some new spots.
As you approach Monks, you see the outdoor seating areas. It was 90 degrees when I was there so I headed inside. The bar is to your right. Monks is spacious with plenty of room for groups. They do have some TVs so it is easy to catch a game.
I counted 50 taps, a couple were ciders and I think I saw a mead. Beer selection was varied and included a heavy does of local and semi-local craft options. Throw in a few nice imports and a some selections from National craft brewers and you will not be lacking in choice. I don't know if they offer bottles or cans as the tap selection kept my attention.
The servers were nice and beer savvy. I got a couple of unasked for samples that they liked and wanted to share with me.
The food was good. I liked my pizza and thought the toppings were well paired.
I will have no issues going back for repeat visits.

I have only been to Monks a couple of times - to buy tickets for a beer fest, and then to attend said beer fest. Both were excellent experiences. They have a decent selection of beers, particularly for the fest. I haven't had much of a chance to meet the staff, and haven't tried any food. It is in a nicely reworked older building. Their selection tends more towards lighter beers, vs other taprooms in the area which favor dark beers. I like their web and facebook pages which tells me about their current lineup, special events, etc.

Monk's house of ale repute is regarded as the mecca for the craft beer lover in South Dakota. They are the only ones in the state that consistently will get Surly's Darkness, and they have two annual parties that are all about sharing the most epic things they can get their hands on. They do a great job of keeping things fresh and always changing. The beer selection is amazing, the service is no-nonsense, the prices are strong, and the food has been hit and miss for me. Overall, I really appreciate what they have done for the beer culture in the area and I can't imagine a time without them.

Great little place in Sioux Falls. Probably the best place within 150 miles for beer craft fans.

Great establishment and vibe but the management and owner care too much about the bottom line and not enough about pleasing loyal customers

Great selection of Belgian, American and European staples in both bottle and draft. I would like to see a Trappist on draft next time I'm in town. I think that would really set them apart. The growlers are really cool.

Been here twice - the first time the beer tender broke the top off a Faro bottle and tried to still serve it to me. The second time I was denied entry because I had my 1 year old son with me at 2pm on a Saturday after some shopping. The employee was extremely rude and acted very unprofessionally. I do not recommend this place solely due to the service issues.

50ish taps and a phenomenal selection of all styles plus a great bottle line up. Strongly recommend that you visit if you are looking for a brew in the falls.

Monks House of Ale repute is a combo microbrewey and craft bar with some food. The atmosphere is a little different. They're located in an old building and feature oputdoor seating as well as limited space indoors up front and then a long hallway and another bar at the Gandy Dancer area. The front features a huge electronic screen with a rundown of the tap selection that seems a bit of overkill and out of place. I prefer the back section that features a tap handle fountain that's kinda cool.
The quality of the beer is outstanding. Their house beers range from good to excellent. They always feature a nice selction of draft beer and it always includes a few Belgian ales. A nice bottle selection as well.
The service on my visits has been so-so, not extremely friendly and seemingly understaffed for the size of the facility and the number of patrons.
The food is OK, they seem to be trying too hard to come up with funky pizza combinations when their excellent thin crusts are crying out for simple choices that are not available; say tomato and basil or sausage.
The value is excellent as they usually seem to have a special or two on some really good beers.
Overall, a fun enough spot with some really good beer. However, with some of the new beer bars in Sioux Falls, I think Monks will need to step up their game.
