Served via nitro at the brewpub on 6/7/08.
Pours black (some ruby highlights do show through the body) with a finger of creamy light tan head. Retains well with a thin creamy layer that leaves thick swathes of lace behind. The aroma has a classic Irish Stout nose, with prominant dry roasted malts and notes of coffee with some toffee sweetness behind it.
The taste is very much the same as the aroma, with a wonderful full flavored mix of dry roasted bitterness and coffee nicely balanced by a firm base of caramel sweetness to help even things out. I would call the mouthfeel more of a light medium with a smooth and creamy feel from the nitro pour.
This is a rather nice Dry Irish Stout that is full flavored and hugely drikable. A solid sessionable dark beer from their lineup here.

A hand-pulled nitro pour at Millheim's premier craft brew destination, Elk Creek.
A: The stout is a brilliant cola color, quite dark with no light in and no light out. A finger worth of compact tan head sits atop the beer, the result of the hand pull.
S: The nose is roasted chocolate and burnt toast. The notes are subtle and do not overtake the senses.
T: The ale is deliciously dry. Roasted chocolate and burnt grains highlight the body. Those elements, mixed with the nitro smoothness is liquid velvet. Coffee and caramel appear throughout, mixing with the burnt chocolate to create a bitterly sweet drink. The overroasting of the malts has really dried out the body, further accentuating the stout flavors.
M: The velvety smooth mouthfeel is a great taste in the palate. The flavors are a robust, fuller Guinness.
D: WIth all respect to Duck Rabbit, I think that Elk Creek is on its way to becoming the dark beer specialist in central PA.

On tap at Elk Creek on 4/6/08.
A - Very dark brown body - almnost bordering black - with garnet hues and a gigantic two-finger fluffy beige head that left decorative lacing around the glass. Moderate carbonation. Attractive brew!
S - Dry roasted malt with notes of coffee and earthy hops. I also sense the slightest bit of tree bark.
T - Classic dry Irish stout with a bit of coffee bitterness and dark chocolate notes. Just a bit of sourness is also present.
M - Medium body with smooth, watery texture and a very dry finish. Moderate amount of carbonation provides a prickly mouthfeel.
D - Solid classic dry stout. Body is a little thin, but it has a nice flavor and sticks with the Irish stout blueprint.
