On-tap, via nitro, at the Millheim brewpub.

A: The ESB is a darker caramel color, very thick looking. A creamy off-white head comes along, lacing in thick lines. A nice looking ale.

S: The nose has plenty of toffee, the dominant malty aroma. Hops come in a little later, citrusy but mild, they know their place.

T: Toffee sweetness, the malty side doesn't hide itself away. Darker, more toasted flavors follow, still bready and nearly as sweet. Hops are present, a bit of citrus and earthiness amongst the malts. A minerally flavor hangs out too.

M: Very quaffable, the nitro adding a strong creaminess that fits in well with the abundant toffee.

Just put it on draft at work (Vic's Pub) and it is such a smooth drink. It should be a big seller. Don't know how many other places will be carrying it (other than Elk Creek itself) I won't be able to have another until Wednesday (close every other day...) Can't wait to enjoy another!

This is one of the best beers I have ever had from a brew pub; the only thing wrong with it is that it's seasonal. Very smooth, not over hopped and just right on the alcohol. Drinking a pint of this is the next best thing to having a pint of real beer in the UK.

I had this beer at Kimballs Pub in Williamsport PA on a nitro tap. The appearance was a cloudy semi-dark amber with a nice 1 inch head. The head cascaded down the glass nicely. The taste was sweet/slightly malty and was almost like dried fruit and it finished with an irony/low hoppy taste, but very very smooth.

Had on tap in a pint glass

Appearance - Hazy orange copper color with a nice off colored head which fades to give a nice layer of foam.

Smell –Toffee and carmel are the first to the nose followed by a bit of more bready and a little bit of roastiness. A small amout of citrus somes in at the end but is largly overwhelemed by the more potent sweet and malty aroma’s.

Taste – The breadiness first meets the tongue. Not as much as would have been oringally expected. The sweetness of the caramel then comes through. While a bit of citrus hop is present in the smell, very little is detectable in the taste, however a little bit of floral flavor can be detected as some of the sweet flavors fade a bit

Mouthfeel – As with most hand pulled a bit low on carbonation for me. The body however was nice and creamy making up for the lack of carbonation.

Overall – An easy drinking beer. Could use a bit more maltyness but otherwise enjoyable.

On nitro-tap at Elk Creek on 11/6/10.

A - Hazy copper-tinted orange liquid with a finger's width of creamy beige head that reduced to a thin, sheer retention but deposited sheet-like lacing around the perimeter of the glass.

S - Classic ESB aroma with caramel and bready malts, toffee notes, a hint of floral and perfumy hops.

T - Sweet and malty up front with caramel malt as well as hints of baked bread, cookie dough and toffee candy. Hop character combines floral notes with a hint of light perfumes. Bitterness is a bit more assertive than your average ESB, which I enjoyed.

M - Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a solid medium body. Wonderful texture overall. Finish is mildly bitter and semi-dry.

D - Elk Creek pretty much nailed the style here. This is the definition of a session beer. Gotta love an ESB on nitro! Tasty and ridiculously easy to quaff.
