Huge pepper smell. No sweetness. I was expecting this to be awful, but it's only slightly terrible. Sourness is killed by the taste of jalapeños. Surprisingly not a drain pour for an obviously infected beer.

Layered, complex. One of the few beers that if you hold it in your mouth long enough you taste everything that's in it. Sweet on the nose, chocolaty on the tongue with a nice heat on the finish. NICE!!

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky black with not much a head.

Smell - Odd. Green peppers, chocolate, booze, and some funky cheese.

Taste - And that's bad. Spicy peppers. Slight hint chocolate. Rum. Fruity. Then the cheese starts. Gross.

Mouthfeel - Big, boozy, spicy, funky. Odd and unpleasant.

Overall - This is quite unpleasant. Something is not right here.

Wax dipped 750 poured into Maudite goblet

A: brownish black. tan head with decent lacing
A: fruity, pepper flesh, chocolate roast
T: fresh ripe vegetable blown out by extreme spice. some chocolate present but not much.
M: a little thin for the style
O: I appreciate the effort but this beer was tough for me to stomach and I ended pouring out what was left after 3-4 sips. I like spicy food but this beer was undrinkable for my palate. The spice did not complement any other flavors and just took over. If you like spicy beers/food give it a try but if you don't, stay clear.

Overall 2.5

Bottle from the brewery.

Edit: The below review was done when the beer was relatively fresh, and before it became completely infected...which didn't take too long.

Dark brown-black pour, with a small wispy tan head, great lacing on the glass. As soon as the cap came off, there was a strange tangy/fruity aroma going on that I couldn't quite put my finger on...later it became evident that it was most likely the peppers. Secondary notes of dark malts in there somewhere. In the taste, yeah, the jalapenos came out in a huge, burning way, lots of spice, along with a green pepperish juiciness. There was still a weird tangy fruity taste as well, sort of citrusy, sort of berry-like. Typical stouty dark malts/coffee/chocolate notes were very subdued in this beer, as the peppers were clearly in charge. Nothing really screamed "rum" at me either, but there was a definite dry barrel aspect. Body on this beer was a bit thin for a stout, with the spiciness not helping the mouthfeel in that regard, making this overall come off more as a heavily spiced strong ale. And my god, was it strong...the 15+%ABV was definitely felt, even if it was pretty well-integrated into the taste. Overall, this wasn't a great beer, but I still found it moderately appealing. And spicy...VERY spicy.

Pours jet black with a thin tan head and nice lacing. Smells tangy, sour and with a hint of pepper aroma. Taste is jalapeño up front and then a sweet, sour tang that finishes with a burn. I don't get much of the rum or cacao, unless that is the sour that I pick up. Pretty light bodied and easy drinking, despite the high ABV and the pepper burn that sets your lips afire. Overall, it's not what I expected, but I don't really know what I expected. It's good and drinkable, maybe better with some aging to let the Flavors mellow and meld a little better.

750ml waxed bottle poured into a Spring House teku. The brew appears black in color with a finger of mocha head. Some spotty lace clings to the glass.

The smell upfront is quite tangy with a raw oak aspect and slightly dusty feeling. There is plenty of citrus and spice from the pepper inclusion as well as chocolate and black licorice.

The taste is like green bell peppers - vegetative and than burning jalapeno warmth. A faint chocolate note mid-palate and more fruity tang aspects.

This is a medium to light bodied brew with a light level of carbobation. The pepper inclusion in this imparts a pleasant warmth that integrates well. However, it is strangely fruity/tangy like BA Kerplunk and that quality was not found in the other variation of Blood Lust. Something seems off about this but we all enjoyed it more than the prior releases. The way the alcohol is hidden in this is pretty crazy. The label claims this is almost 16% alcohol...it seems more like half that.

Poured from a waxed bottle into BRS teku glass. Pitch black rich full body with a thick dark brown head that remains. Great carbonation! Aroma of mainly peppers with a hint of sweetness. The taste is initially hot peppers, it quickly fades to a nice sweetness that rum barrel aging usually gives. The after tastes definitely has a small bit of "chocolateyness" to it. The mouth feel is much different than the other springhouse beers. It is quite thick and full bodied(exactly what I was hoping for). The 15.9% alcohol content is masked professionally, since there is no trace of it present. Overall this beer is fantastic. I really enjoy my spicy beers and this pleases me very much so. I hope everyone else is ready to enjoy this chocolatey fireball!!
