Leave it to one of my local buddies to keep hooking me up with beers! I keep telling him that the eradication of The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody takes precedent & he adheres to that request, but when he arrives with CANs for The CANQuest (tm), it is impossible to deny his bequest.

From the CAN: Nothing. Citra is imagined as a rampant monster, hence her destruction.

Once more, I Crack!ed the CAN open, but between its being a 16-fl. oz. pounder CAN & the current trend of light-to-no filtration, I decided to CANduct a gentle Glug as who knows what is what. Unbidden, I got two fingers of soapy, foamy, tawny head with decent retention that left behind heavy lacing as it fell. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, enticing The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus to come to my aid in destroying Citra. It was precisely their efforts that enabled us to be successful in this endeavor! Nose was the expected grapefruit & caramel that I know & love from hours spent at their Taproom. I am a Mug Club member & this is a go-to on draft, especially during Wednesday night Trivia. Mouthfeel was medium, light for the style. The taste began with a roaring blast of grapefruit-citrusiness from Citra's maw, but it was followed by a cooling spray of caramel malt to keep my palate from going into overload. It still put my eyes to watering as a torrential rain fell outside, I suppose that if you play with Citra, you CAN expect to get burned. Oh, man, I love this beer! Finish was dry, but not super-dry & the ABV was sneaky, despite its evocative fieriness on the label. I may need a lay-down after this one!

Clear, bright golden color; served with pretty much no head.

Smells of caramel, sweet grapefruit, and cat peeing on a Christmas tree. Sweet and sticky on the palate, lots of citrus and a hint of tropical fruit. The caramel was evident throughout. The alcohol was masked extremely well. Nice hop bomb here.

I was very surprised with this beer. Never heard of the brewery Spring House. This IPA was refreshing and nicely hippy . Not over the hill just real good.

Draft offering at the spring house taproom served in a snifter. The brew appears with a polished clarity leaning towards golden in color with a white film resting atop. A full wall of lace coats the glass as it fades.

The aroma is tropical somewhat like pineapple blending to grass and herbal/pulp notes. This overall is very juicy feeling with a touch of fresh toasty grain towards the back. Only once warm does the alcohol poke through a bit.

The taste includes a juicy hop bitterness. Somewhat pulpy with rinds and a long lasting clean bitterness with complimenting warming alcohol. It has a tropical feel throughout but some sips yield a slight fruity sweetness contrasted by herbal and grassy bitterness.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is very drinkable for 10%. I think they really knocked this one out of the park. I could get myself into trouble drinking multiple glasses of this.

Served on-tap at the tasting room.

A - Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a small half finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a small ring around the edge, leaving small wisps of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of candied grapefruit, citric hops, pine resin, fresh cut grass, lightly toasted caramel malt and some light booze.

T - Starts off with a mix of sweet caramel malt and the candied fruit quickly being joined by the citric hops, pine, grass and mild booze burn. Finish is pretty sweet with a bit of dryness, lingering long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sweet, sticky feel coats the palate. The booze is definitely there from the start, getting warmer as it sits in the glass.

O - One of the better IPA's from Spring House I have had. Usually not a fan of their lighter beers but this one was pretty solid.
