Planet Bean Coffee StoutPlanet Bean Coffee Stout
Notes: Planet Bean Coffee Stout is smooth, dark, full-bodied, and satisfyingly rich. Coffee beans expertly roasted at Cumberland County Coffee Company give this stout its powerful aroma and pronounced fresh-brewed coffee flavor. Your only problem with this tempting brew will be resisting the urge to pour it in your coffee mug before work!

Poured into a snifter.

3.75 A: Black color. Two fingers of creamy/frothy tan head. Retention is a about below average but finger ring of lacing is left.

3.5 S: This is all about the coffee. Dark roast coffee dominates with roasted barley upping the bitterness and char. Mild caramel and chocolate sweetness. Straightfoward, but pleasant.

3.5 T: The taste is big coffee as well. The base beer functions as a vessel for the coffee. It doesn't add a whole lot to the coffee flavor. Roasted barley adds more roast. It's fairly well balanced with a mild caramel and chocolate to combat the roast.

3.75 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Mildly creamy and super smooth.

3.5 D: It's good, but it's one dimensional.

Paid about 9 bucks for this which is more than the regular imperial stout so it MUST be good!

A - Light pour produced a 1/4 of head that dissipates quickly beer color as deep dark and black as I always want.
S - Very nice brewed coffee with chocolate and mild mocha bean bitterness.
T - Like a cold cup of coffee this beer is what I wanted Terrapin Wake and Bake to be strong coffee taste smooth with lingering bitterness and a semi sweet body making for a tasty beer experience,
M - So smooth and bold with straight up cold coffee taste.

Overall I don't care if people say it's one dimensional because its a great dimension a coffee flavored stout done right! If you need more add the whipped topping!

Large format bottle with no date anywhere. $6.?? at WFM. Poured into two pint glasses. Purchased about a week or two ago from the cold room. Label is different than the one shown. Capped not corked.

A- Very dark and murky. Sludge(coffee grounds?) from the bottom of the bottle changes the color to a lighter brown. Sticky head disappears about half way through the beer. Looks watery once the head dissipates.

S- Very coffee forward smell but it reminded me of crunching on a coffee bean more than a good cup of brewed coffee, dissipates after a few minutes.

T- coffee and some vanilla in the finish. Some roast but really nothing great here. Watery old iced coffee is what this reminds me of.

M- Thin and watery like a bad cup of diner coffee. Very little carbonation in the mouth.

O- Not one I will go back to. FBS blows this away and is a much better price point as well. Maybe this was an old bottle? Coffee smell was there so I think it was pretty fresh. Tried to support another local but this beer is unsupportable.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into pint glass in June 2017. Drank it about 2 weeks after purchase. No packaged date on the bottle.

Appearance: Dark black with a thin tan/brown head. Head is thin, and leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass, more than most stouts.

Smell: Strong aroma of coffee and roasted nuts. There is a hint of chocolate as well, but overall the roasted coffee is most pronounced.

Taste: This beer is apply named 'Planet Bean', as the coffee flavor dominates. There are additional flavors of roasted malts, and chocolate. There is some hop bitterness to enhance the taste and add some complexity, but it is dominated by the coffee flavors.

Mouth-feel: Strong, and with a very smooth creamy body. Matches the 7.0% alcohol listed ere, I do not see the ABV on the label. Sweet and not as bitter as some other stouts.

This is an interesting stout, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. It is very smooth. It is too creamy and I would prefer a little more hop bitterness, but I would buy this again.
