Diabolical Doctor Wit is a white ale brewed in the authentic Belgian style. This Belgian style Wit starts off with a wheat base and is left unfiltered. It is then carefully spiced with coriander and bitter orange peel and aged with lavender to introduce a unique floral bouquet that complements this complex yet refreshing fruity thirst quencher.

The past couple of days have been an amazing CANmalgam of Goses & Pilsners, but now my supply is exhausted. I have this Duvel as kind of an oddball, but it will lead me back to some of the breweries from which I reviewed beers the last couple of days, including Transmitter, Manayunk (CANayunk), Sly Fox, Conshohocken (CANshohocken), Sloop & Great North. Following that excursion, I will be focusing on imports for a while, bringing me full circle to this one. Stay tuned. It's gonna be CANother wild ride on The CANQuest (tm)!
From the CAN: "Spring House Brewing Company 209 Hazel Street Lancaster, PA 17603".
They were never very forthcoming to begin with & since I have cut ties with them, I really don't care. This is one of the last of theirs from my backlog with nary another to be purchased from them.
In-CAN agitation time! Once that was acCANplished, I Crack!ed open the vent for an inverted Glug into my Hoegaarden glass. This raised two fingers of fizzy, foamy, soapy, eggshell-white head that quickly dissipated into wisps. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose had an odd citrusiness to go with the usual spiciness. At least one previous reviewer mentioned their use of Kaffir Lime & I CAN believe it. That said, it might be nice if they were just a bit more forthCANming on the label! Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not far removed from it. The taste had an unusual tartness for the style, probably from the lime, but who knows. It did not really taste like a Witbier since I was not getting much in the way of spices, but I was getting a lot of citric acidity. I'm not anti-innovation, but when you don't put anything on the label AND you deviate from the Style's norm, then I have a problem. Finish was dry, undoubtedly due to the inclusion of spices, but it just was not making it for me. YMMV.

Poured into a half pint glass: color is straw gold, head is off white with fine bubbles that dissipate quickly to a ring on the sides of the glass.
Smell is blend of tart and floral, which leads a more citrusy like aroma. Coriander is light, lavender is noticeable, hint of wheat/biscuit.
Taste follows aroma with tart flavor, floral notes, mild toast/biscuit malt...
Mouthfeel has strong interplay with flavor as the tartness is sharp and overtakes the beer - I think of wits as wheaty with light spice, this iteration falls a bit sharp and tart with more aromatic, floral spice.
Overall an interesting beer but it just seems off as wit in style.

Absolutely disgusting. Bought a loose can from my local distributor and the cashier couldn't give me any info about it. The can doesn't give you anything either so i went into this blind. I did google it before i opened it but i never could have guessed it would be so awful. Way too many shitty flavors goin on for me. Im an ale and lager guy so this was way outta my comfort zone. Blech.
