Reviewed from notes.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose brings coffee, chocolate, caramel, and roasted malt. The taste is a bit light with some chocolate, roasted coffee and malt, as well as some light caramel and toffee notes. Good body with nice carbonation carrying the roasted flavors throughout. Would have been better in December, but was still quite nice on a July evening.

A: Deep brown, just shy of black. A lighter, off-white hinting towards brownish hue of head.

S: Sugary coffee notes, some mild chocolate scents. Kinda caramel. Soft and malty. Light floral, almost soapy scent.

T: Very sweet and light chocolate. A mildly bitter, almost fruity hop balance. A little flowery in some ways

M: Lighter, but not watery thin. A little sting of carbonation just on the tip of the tongue

D: Quaff away... alcohol seems rather light, body is smooth, flavour is alright. Decent, and that's about it.

Served darker than night, without a hint of light coming through it and a nice thick, creamy brown head that rings the glass nicely. Big roasted coffee aromas jump out at you from the start. As the coffee smells settle down a bit a very rich chocolate character is also perceived. As the brew starts off the silky smooth, rich chocolatey flavors over power everything else. There is a subtle caramel background to the chocolate character. The roasted coffee flavors make themselves known as the beer turns towards its finish. The beer finishes a bit drier than it begins as the roastedness takes on a slightly burnt character. I'm not really sure about the strength of this one, but it seems to have a slightly warming alcohol character to it although I wouldn't swear by that. Very rich/creamy/smooth mouthfeel and medium-full to full body make this a very nice brew to cuddle up next to the fire with. The standard offerings at South Street are always good but it is these rotating/seasonal brews that make this place so great.
