Wow - haven't been to this place in almost 10 years. Let's see what it's doing these days...

You walk in to a big long wooden bar. Not cherry wood or anything old-school like that...maybe more of a chestnut or dark pine color. Everywhere I go, it's very wooden. There are tables on the left side around the corner - it's a pretty big place. Crowd is a mix of UVA students and younger professionals. Not poser but maybe not quite a beer geek crew...something in between. It'll definitely play for happy hour; doesn't open until 4:30 during the week but maybe that's because it's a little ways from the Corner and downtown.

They have about 7 taps of their own stuff, with a guest tap and a cider. One cask ale, too. The beers I sampled weren't the worst stuff in the world. They're definitely middle of the road in innovation and style range; as mentioned, this isn't a true beer geek place to me. But that's OK.

Service was very prompt, courteous and efficient. I'd give it a higher mark if only I was asked before I got a bloody lemon wedge in my hefeweizen. Please ask next time.

Didn't have any food - maybe I'll check their chow out somewhere down the road.

Prices are quite reasonable. $4 per pint works fine for me.

Overall an enjoyable place for happy hour and one I'll return to when I get the chance.

Didn't have anything to eat, but the dining side was packed on a Saturday afternoon. Long bar and spacious bar area. Attentive and friendly bartender. Twelve drafts made on site and flights are available. The beer is solid, and enough styles so there is something for everyone.

My family stopped into South Street Brewery on our way back to Philadelphia from Washington D.C. It's a nice looking, highly polished place inside of an old industrial building. It has the currently popular "modern-industrial-retro" look with exposed brick, wooden support beams, blonde wood tabletops, and grey steel. It works.

We started out with good service as Colin R was friendly, catered a little bit to my kids, and suggested beers for both my wife and I. He seemed quite genuine, which really made the whole service feel more comfortable and "real" than when when you have a server who's more robotic and just going through the motions.

We started with "VEGGIE WONCHOS" which are fried wontons with vegetarian chili and smoked gouda cheese sauce. I thought they were a little lacking for $11, but they were a hit with my kids. Our entrees included Pot Roast Grilled Cheese ($13), Three Cheese Mac n' Cheese ($14), and 2 orders of Fish & Chips ($17). Everything was good, and my daughter and I could have easily have split an order of fish & chips rather than ordering our own, but I still felt it was a bit pricey. Our bill for 4 people with 3 drinks was $97.82 before tipping. Still, I saw it as an entertainment expense - a special treat - and we were all happy. I would certainly not dine here on a regular basis though.

The beers were quite good, and I was pleased by that. Had the quality of the beers been off the whole meal would have seemed slanted and over-priced... I would certainly stop in here for a beer on a regular basis!

Overall, a bit pricey, but ultimately satisfying.

Vibe: nothing to special. standard seating and bar area. used to be a little more of a nice hang out before the remodel. used to be more of a comfortable place to relax and play cards with a beer, now lots of college kids with their parents and a bit more of a restaurant feeling.

Quality: not the worst place that makes beer in town but that doesn't make it the greatest. some beers are pretty decent to good but nothing spectacular.

Service: they were pretty busy so service wasn't quite the best but we didnt have any problems.

Selection: this is the one area of improvement since the revamp. this is the brewery with the most taps in town. and they have even gotten to be a bit experimental, even had a spelt ipa and a unique lager. still with the experimenting and tap numbers there still isnt the best tap list.

Overall: if you really want to try out breweries in town this isn't a bad place to go but if your looking to drink the best beer in town I'd go elsewhere.
