Yeahhh...kinda surprised this is on the list of beer bars in Phx, because there's no way I'd call it a beer bar. That said, the pasties are bomb. It is one of my favorite places to eat in downtown phoenix for sure. Serves late and great late-night atmosphere downstairs as well. Go for the food, not the beer.
When you want the beer, go to the Whining Pig close by, which has a large, great selection (but for some reason isn't listed on BA, and I can't see how to add a place).
And as long as we're on that topic, BA definitely needs to add King's Beer and Wine bar & package liquor, which is a short drive from downtown phx, but my favorite beer bar in the country right now. Not just 80+ taps, but always a QUALITY curation. Their 3 year anniversary a little over a year ago was truly insane: the BA stouts alone totaled ~20, including 5+ varieties of BCBS with several one-off 'unicorns' dating from half a decade prior, several years of Black Note...you get the idea. Only I assure you the full menu was even more incredible than you're imagining with that brief description. (Finally tried Utopias, 2oz on the house offered to me after complimenting the owner's incredible curation/expenditure.)
This is more of a place for the food then the beer... last time I was there their tap was: boddington's, Kronenbourg 1664, guniess, hoegaarden, and something I complete wrote off. On bottle I can remember 8th st ale and tripel karmeliet.
They do have 5 dollar carbombs all day everyday.
You go here for the pasty, because they are damn good. They're glorified hotpockets and they have like 20 variations.
I'm just glad they don't run a swill operation here brew wise.
I would definitely suggest hitting this place up for grub then strolling to taste of tops or boulders after for the beer love.
