I happened to be in Newcastle for work when I stumbled upon this great pub. Tyneside and Northumberland "pub of the year" 2006 and 2007. The exteriour looks really nice. In golden letters and nicely painted it reads Newcastle Arms on a background of green.

Interiour looks really nice with seats along the walls and a big open space in the middle. At the bar there were some local people. Atmosphere was nice and people were friendly and talkative.

The 6 tap handles gave a selection of beers that ranged from porter, mild, bitter, stout, ESB and the like. All hand pumped real ales. When a cask is emptied another cask is put back with a different beer. It is made sure that they keep a wide range of beerstyles available, so no chance of 6 porters. Most beers are from local breweries, although they also had some good beers from breweries further down the road.
The beers I had were a porter, ESB and blond, which were are very good and at the right cellar temperature.

A great pub with real ales and good atmosphere.
