You don't have to worry about favela kids stealing your wallet here, as Bar Anhanguera is located in one of the wealthier and better parts of São Paulo. I walked in around 9pm on Friday and this place was bustling, though I still found a seat for myself at a table. Soccer matches were on TV and everyone seemed to have a beer at hand. I asked for a menu was immediately asked what I wanted to drink. Whoa, wait one minute let me look.

The quantity of beer is more limited, but is unique as it specializes in catering to Brazilian artisan beer. Bamberg Pilsen on tap, Dana Bier, Bruge, Whitehead, Moçambique, Baden Baden, and other available in the bottle. Glassware was simple, and my bottle was presented in a bucket of ice at my table. The quality could have been a tad higher if my bottle of Bruge Stout wasn't infected and nasty tasting.

My waiter was polite and willing to put up to my limited Portuguese, but he was willing to help out and make a recommendation of beer. The meals listed in the menu show pictures of each meal, and since I forgot my language dictionary, I took a shot in the dark. What I got was solid, something that tasted like meatloaf (don't remember the name), but cut into small pieces and served with some green dipping oil. It worked well enough for me.

If you're targeting Brazilian artisan beers in São Paulo, this is the place to go for that. The options available make this worth a visit, but it could have been better if my beer (Bruge Stout) wasn't as nasty as I thought it would be, or if I understood the menu and ordered a meal more to my liking. I just have to make better decisions of what I order next time.

One of the best bars in Sao Paulo or Brasil for that matter to try craft beer from all around Brasil. They had colorado brewery on tap and a extensive bottle list with the breweries listed via the geography of the country. Beers from Baden Baden, Eisenbahn, Schmitt, Colorado, and more. The forword on the menu was a description of beer styles by MJ and the inside had a nice rustic feel even though we where in the second largest city in the world. The staff seemed to be well versed in the different style but spoke mostly portuguese. The food was great but the prices were a little on the pricey side, but still if I lived here I would go to this bar at least once a week.
