Good place to go with some buddies. Not a place to find chicks though unless your trying to steal someone else's. Its a small, chill atmosphere. There's a great draft selection. The backyard has a huge bocce ball court. I've never even heard of that game until I came to this place. its a really fun game though when your wasted. They have a bar in the backyard as well. Good guy that runs the joint. He's got a little crazy dog that never stops barking though. Can be a good buzzkill even though i love dogs. But defintately a cool place to just relax and find good beer.

Hans is truly a unique place. Small interior and bar, but a huge outdoor area in the back. Over a dozen large tables along with a few more round tables in a covered area offer plenty of spots to sit and enjoy your beer. There's also an outdoor bar, though I'm not sure when/if it's actually used. The bocce ball court is an added bonus. The fact that it's dog-friendly is nice as well. A great place for a beer when the weather cooperates.

Good beer and lots of taps, but many may be unavailable at any given point in time. Nothing crazy to choose from and not the place to go to for what's new and hard to find. But chances are you'll find something good to drink.

Good service...nothing really stands out as being great or not good. You order a beer and they give it to you, pretty simple. My most recent pints were $6 each which seems steep for normal offerings.

Cool hole-in-the-wall joint. Love the outdoor space.

This is one of those places where you can't judge the book by its cover deal. To say the least this place has a lot of character a complete hole in the wall and I love it. The atmosphere is great although I can't say that I've ever really stayed inside the place longer than it takes to order a beer I tend to hang out in the beer garden out back. Out back is great boccie ball and a patio bar with the owners dog walking around. The bartenders have always been kind and quick with their service. They serve a good amount of quality micros with your typical beer bar imports. They don't serve any food there but they have a big binder with a bunch of local places that will deliver to the bar. If I lived within walking distance of this place I'd be there for a pint or two every night. One last thing Billy is kind enough to allow the local BAs to have gatherings out back supper cool of him to do that.

I have gone here a couple of times. Just now getting around to reviewing the place. This has a hole in the wall feeling in the best since of the term. Usually when I walk up, the owners dog is there to great you. At first he barks like crazy, but as soon as you walk through the door, he is your best friend. The selection is great. Some of the highlights are Stone IPA, and Hop Rod Rye. They also have plenty of Real Ale offerings. They have a wide selection of micro's and decent imports. The only thing to complain about is the sub par bottle selection and the lack of a beer list. The atmosphere can't be beat with a big beer garden out back with a boccie ball court. Friendly people frequent the place with good service. One of my favorite places to go in the Rice Village area. It is laid back, and pretty much everything you want when visiting a bar.

Edit 05/16/11

This has been one of my favorite bars in the Houston area for a while, but lately they are falling way down. The tap list now consists of pretty much every ABInbev product available, with every Widmer product available. There are still a few Real Ale and Saint Arnold offerings, but that is it. The quality of the beer is pretty bad now as well. Lots of stuff sits on the wall and does not move. It seems like the owners are just giving up which is very disappointing. To bad, I use to love this place.

Nice little place right off Kirby right across from the IBC Bank. The actual inside bar is fairly small as most of the tables are outside so pick a nice night to really get the full effect of this place. Huge bocce ball court where there is always a game going on, and it's not usually a long wait if you want to get your turn. Large screen tv outside and a few smaller ones inside if you want to catch a game. Around 20-30 taps with a good mix of unique American, Belgian, and German offerings. Pint prices are generally 5 dollars with 7.50 or so for special releases/higher alcohol beers. They also do half pints on request but use the standard pint glasses. Downside is the line to grab a beer can be fairly long depending on the night because of the way it's set up, but once you get it it's probably the best bar to grab a beer in Houston. I should go there more.

I'm surprised nobody has reviewed this place yet. Maybe the best thing about Hans's bier haus is the atmosphere. It's very relaxed there. There's a charming old bar in the front and a sprawling biergarden in the back. A bocce court takes up the entire length up one side of the biergarden and there's a secondary bar with taps when it's busy.

As far as the beer goes they have a very respectable selection for a bar of this size. Quality and service have always been great as well. Probably the only bad experience I've ever had here was on the St. Arnold's Christmas pub crawl 2004. The place was packed well beyond what it was ever meant to hold and by the time I got to the bar the Christmas ale was out.
