750 ml corked and waxed bottle, as Baladin Leön, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. BB date Nov. 2014. ABV is 9%. Hazy dark brown colour, large off-white head. Aroma of mild spices, dark dried fruits and rotting fruits. Malty and mildly spicy flavour, notes of brown sugar and caramel, hints of vanilla, but still not too sweet. Dark dried fruits again. Light bodied for its strength, and pleasant to drink.

From old, undated notes. Poured from the bottle.
Nearly see-through purple hue.
White head; nice lace.
Figs, jam & burnt sugar nose, with hints of cherry & smoke. An amazing nose!
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Tobacco & mild cherry flavors; decent, but extremely disappointing after that incredible smell.

Pours a reddish brown color, kinda murky. Not very pretty beer at all.
Smell is pretty much as expected, lots of plums and raisins, and a bit of bread.
Sweet taste, once again with plums and raisins, aftertaste is a bit nutty.
Pretty light bodied, considering the ABV.
This was kinda underwhelming, considering the style and ABV. It was easier to drink than I thought, but it wasn't very complex.

Murky brownish-Amber with some floaters in it. Not sure if it's sediment, or dried cork residue. Aroma has cherries, grainy bread, hints of cocoa, toast and a dash of brown sugar. Flavor is rich, almost fruitcake like with some tree fruits, brown sugar, sweet bread and caramel. Feel is medium-full bodied, slightly prickly and metal-like finish. Overall a nice Belgian-style ale with lots of flavor.

750ml
Gold Foil/Capped
Poured into a chalice a pretty nice dark brown color, with some nice carbonation, with a small/quick fizzy off-white head, which leaves a nice medium size island, and some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some pretty nice dark fruits (grapes, figs, raisins, plums). The taste is very nice, malty, yeasty, with some very nice dark fruits. Medium body, ABV is hidden pretty well. Overall, this is a pretty tasty brew.

let me just preface this by saying that i love all the italian beer flooding the market right now, and my curiosity is through the roof, so it is with great enthusiasm that i get into this one, my first of these on tap, thanks to lucky pie in louisville. its got a nice red color to it, like that almost maroon red you see in old renderings of saint nick's coat. deep burgundy sort of, short lived off white head. it smells like dried cherries or cranberries, tart and sweet, but not wild yeasts really so much as a fruity tartness. the grain is heavy, but you would still never suppose 9% abv on this one. its creamy and well carbonated, and tastes like red malt, even rice starchiness, dried fruit, saison type yeast, and a mild spiced character. i also oddly taste some dr pepper or cherry cola or something, its perfect winter beer, unlike others, but fits neatly within the baladin family of beers i have had so far. one was enough, two tops, but i appreciate its uniqueness, which has been a common theme with their beers. worth trying for sure, and with longevity beyond the holiday season i think.

Pours a dark amber with a one finger light tan head. Deep ruby color when held to the light.
Smells of cocoa, licorice, figs and dates. Some spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Taste is more cocoa and spice. Some dark fruits, molasses and caramel. A hint of vanilla.
Rich, smooth mouth feel with medium carbonation.
A good beer which has a Christmas feel and taste to it.

Best italian beer I've drunk till now.
It has a beautifull dark brown color and a great creamy (and of a cream tone) foam.
Aroma and taste are malty, full of dried fruits as well as an incredible chocolate biscuit note, there's some coffe too.
Body is perfect, carbonation at great level. Alcohol is well hidden but gives a nice feel.
If you're in Turin, Italy, make sure you go to a Baladin bar and take this one (available only during winteer and spring, if I am not mistaken!).
