Jet-black in color, this monster smells of coffee and chocolate. The taste is much of the same, with hints of creamy toffee and roasted malt. Smooth and delicious, this medium bodied ale is all about the malts, but has enough hop bitterness to be balanced.

Look: Pours dark with a lovely tan foam on top. The head doesn't stay long, though.
Smell: Ah, rich and chocolaty. Even my wife, who doesn't like to drink beer, loves the smell of this stout.
Taste: Delicious. I love the taste. I frequently use it in cooking vegetable stews.
Feel: Not overly thick but has a nice body to it.
Overall: This is my standard go-to beer. I always have some in the fridge and use it for cooking and drinking. No one I've ever offered one of these to has ever declined a second! My overall favorite beer.

Purchased 7/27/16 at my local Alamo Liquors, 1,000 Oaks San Antonio. $8.99 for a 4-pack of 12 oz cans. I don't normally list the price but in this case, it is the value that makes this such a great beer. It compares favorably with a lot of the limited release stouts that sell for $8-10 per bottle.

Appearance: Very dark brown, not black, with a little amber hue to it.

Smell: I smell burning! Nice chocolate smell with a hint of burn to it, as if a chocolate chip melted on the cookie sheet.

Taste: A delicious, sweet chocolate stout but with some smoked flavor and even a little (50 IBU that tastes like 25) hop flavor that gives it a little kick. There is also a mild espresso taste that I especially noticed at the finish.

Mouthfeel: I agree with other reviewers that say it has a Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Not much head which is common for this style.

Overall: I rated it a 4.25 because there are others in this category that are better. But that is a little misleading because I am comparing it to beers that run $8-12 per 16.9 ounce bottle. One can get a 4-pack of this for $9. Therefore as an every day drinking beer I'd give it closer to a 4.5 based on the value. and availability.

12 ounce can - $3.49 at Total Wine & More in Greenville, South Carolina.

Appearance: Dispensed a deep, black body with half an inch of mocha-toned foam.

Smell: Boldly chocolaty aromatics atop a blunted roasted character with touches of scorched heavy cream, candied caramels, molasses and a vein of dark fruitiness.

Taste: As with the aroma, very heavy and forward on the chocolate backed by a decided creaminess. Fairly sweet akin to melty ice cream. A little touch of dark fruitiness within. A roastiness is present but rather restrained. Warming alcohol. Lightly roasty, heavily chocolaty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Charmingly smooth mouthfeel.

Overall: Terrifically wonderful.

Pours really dark. The head was fairly thick, but did dissipate fairly quickly. The nose is has coffee in it. The taste has coffee and chocolate competing. They work well together, and this is a solid stout. Yes, I will get it again, gladly.
