Who can beat the subdued flare of the Valkarie? It delivers a rich malt and hop at an equal level. It keeps you asking for more to assure yourself that either one or the other satisfies the most. Isn't that a royal blend; fit for a king? It's more surprisingly pleasant that the the balance delivers such a punch.

Southern Star Valkyrie has a very thick, beige head, a murky, gold-orange appearance, noticeable gray floaties, and significant lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is of fruity, rather floral, hop-oily bread, and the flavor is of sweet, bready barley malt and super-bitter hop oil. This really does live up to its billing of 100 IBUs. However, as it warms, and one drinks it down, it does mellow out and becomes a very chill drinking experience. The mouthfeel is heavy and syrupy, and Southern Star Valkyrie finishes dry, rich, quite sweet, and decently sip-able. The alcohol really does not show itself with this one. Check it out- it’s outstanding!

I've now had the bottles and currently a growler from Whole Foods Market.

L - Amber orange color - a bit hazy with pale off white (yellow shifted) foam. The bottled beer looked clearer. I might be getting an early tap after some settling.

S - Big hoppy citrus all the way. Mouth watering aroma

T - Incredible grapefruit hops. Even pithy. Very bitter with some astringency but not in a bad way. This is the most grapefruit hops flavor I have had. This is why I'm rating it. Excellent. Superlatives all around.

M - Mouthfeel is quite light. It is a nice departure from some of the huge IIPAs I have had lately. This beer feels like a single IPA, Refreshing.

O - Excellent beer. I will drink all I can while fresh. I have heard that some have had infected or oxidized Valkyrie. I highly suggest they sample around. This is a great beer.

Pours a cloudy amber with copious off white head that resolves quickly.
Smells strongly of piney, citrus hops, floral notes, sweet malts.
Tastes with grapefruit, citrus and pith forward - counter balanced by sweet malts.
Medium body with an oily quality and pleasant resin - bittersweet finish.

At first blush, I was overwhelmed by the citrus and pine heavy hop bomb that this is. . . but as it warms, it a very pleasant sipper. Enjoyed with fattier foods/cheese/bbq - well hidden abv.
Almost a tripel IPA in its intensity.
I rather enjoyed this beer - I'm not a hop head - but I can respect a quality, over hopped beer.
