New ownership is great they are Very friendly, have rotating taps, decent bottle selection, and a 15% military discount. They also have a new crowler machine as well as filling growlers. Love this place. Also they changed the name out is now Edison city ale house.

A: Sordove in a shotty part of Tacoma, not far from the mall wedged between I5 and South Tacoma Way, next to 7/11 but I have never had any issues here. They recently added some small tables for anyone who wanted to shop, sit, drink whatever.

Q: All of the beer was fresh. They had good quality stuff, not much on the macro. The handles they had for growler fills were also very good

S: Service from the owner is horrid! He is a jerk off. This from first hand experience. He treats his employees terrible and his clients have to har witness. He has no customer skills and decided to open;y have an exchage with me over his displeasure for certain growler. Service from the staff itself is good and polite. Other BA's have also had issues with terrible service.

S: Good across the board. Plenty of Cali stuff, lots of local, stuff, some Belgians. Overall a good stop in Tacoma. I thought it was better than Tacoma Boys on the selection but Tacoma Boys seemed to have a few more BIG beers

I stopped in this weekend (7/30/09) with a friend who lived across the street. I found the staff to be knowledgeable and appreciative of the same in a customer. I find it's always pleasant to find beer store staff that are willing to share without being overbearing or dismissive.

The selection was nice, a good collection from all over, plenty of the familiar greats, Stone, Dogfish Head, Port/lost abbey, Lagunitas, Rogue etc. There was also a good selection of breweries I don't see in So Cal. Being offered singles when there's a bunch of new things to try is always appreciated. They're obviously not afraid to bring in the special releases.

I can't comment on the prices, I found them reasonable, but coming from California, I don't know about 'local' prices for the same beers.
An offer to help carry the beer across the street was a nice touch.

Overall, I wish this was my local beer store.

A year later, I still visit this beer store for my beer supplies when I visit Tacoma (about once a month) the guys here are always friendly and remember me and my tastes, I've always found them knowledgeable about the beer and respectful of my knowledge and tastes.

I still recommend this place and their selection, and offer the same disclaimer as to local price. I love the fact the guys at Tacoma Pipe and Tobacco treat me, who lives two states away, as a local.

Thanks Tacoma pipe, tobacco and world beers

A nice store for beer and smoking items. The beer selection has been increasing for the last year and they now have an excellent selection for beer geeks and beer snobs as well. I have even seen magnums there for $35 and up! I prefer the Trappist ales and they have a complete selection as well as Pliny all the time. The best beer store that I have found in the area. The area could be better but lock your car and all should be well. It is worth the visit. They also carry a large selection of cigars as well as other smoking accessories.

Tacoma Tobacco, Pipe & World Beers is exactly what it says it is. A big selection of tobacco, pipes and beer. They told me they wanted to be the largest selection of beer in Pierce County and at this point they probably are (although they are probably neck-in-neck with Tacoma Boys expanded selection). Avery, Russian River, Great Divide, west coast micros, Port/Lost Abby, Belgian, German, etc. All the 12oz. you can buy in singles.

Service has been a little hot and cold. There was a lot of hard selling to begin with but that seems to have cooled down. the staff is friendly enough. The prices have been slowly but surely creeping up. Some 22oz. bottles are $2 higher than the regional average.

If you live in Tacoma you should check this place out and judge for your self. The beer selection is worthy.

I was in here a few weekends ago and they seemed to have a most of the coolers full of beer now. The person doing the beer asked for help with what he should order and was writing things down, so if you go in there and see something you want and they don't have you should see if they will carry it.
The prices are also really good, at least 10% cheaper than anywhere else in the area.
The area seems a little bit scary though, as there were some shady looking people coming in to buy various non tobacco smoking things.

Nov 3 2008 Edit

The prices are now about 10% higher than average, which is a bummer.
