Outlawger is designed to deliver fresh German lager to American soil. What’s the secret you ask? It begins by getting a famous German brewmaster wasted on American double IPA’s at Local Option, and then fooling him into revealing the most classified methods of making perfect Deutsch Pils. Consider this beer another victory for the Allies.

5/10/24 - (Home) (Chicago, IL) - Can Notes: Purchased from Beer on the Wall 5/1/24 for $3.41 at store temperature, refrigerated upon returning home until opening. 16 oz without a can date. 5.0% ABV, Local Option Bierwerker, Established 1986 Crook County USA. Outlawger Lager., Crook County Original. Brewed at Peabody Heights Brewery, 401 E. 30th Street, Baltimore, Maryland.
This Premium Lager is brewed with only the finest barley, hops, yeast, water, time and temperature.
Appearance: A bit cloudy golden straw base, consistent steady medium plus carbonation for the first half can and remaining pours into my flute glass. Creamy egg white head lingers for a minute or two before leaving a half hearted razor thin layer over the base, and a bit more congregation around the rim with a small but sturdy layer of lacing. 3.75
Aroma: Nice cracker, generous salt and pepper, medium plus strength aroma, nicely pleasant. 4.0
Taste: Consistent with aroma, full taste matching the aroma word for word, leaving me very satisfied. Digging the fresh cracker taste and accompanying salt and cracker. 4.0
Mouthfeel: Slightly dry, drinks very light and easy, below the 5% ABV. Faint carbonation gives pillowy reaction to the mouth saying this gentle beer is still alive. Sweet flavors slightly prevail, but balanced and within the style, as the hops balance out well with the malt cracker flavors. Overall salty pepper cracker finish. 4.25
Overall: This is a very well brewed German Pilsner. Assuming this is fresh based on the cracking fresh pilsner flavors and feel. Really glad I picked this up and had my first go at a Local Option offering. I would like to try more either at Local Option or after a fresh drop. 4.0

16oz can. Date stamp on bottom lip is '06/08/23'. Label has this information, "BREWED AT PEABODY HEIGHTS BREWERY 401 E. 30TH STREET BALTIMORE, MD".
Mostly clear (with shimmers), pale straw colored body. Three fingers of white head upon pouring turns into a creamy cap and ring. Leaves behind lacing webs.
Aroma is mainly toasted grain malts (identified on the label as barley). Hay and floral hops. Smells sweet.
Taste is toasted barley malts, with a metallic note. Honey sweet. Hay, straw, and floral hops with a touch of green apple. Mild tail off in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Minor bite on the tongue. Crisp finish. Excellent carbonation.
Certainly is sweet and the metallic note stands out. Quaffable.

I had this on draft 9/12/23 @ the Hopleaf.
Cloudy yellow/orange appearance.
Nice off-white head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.
Pine, corn & a faintly metallic note in the nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Sweet corn & mild caramel flavors up front; mild pine notes on the finish.
Somehow thin but with a syrup-y note? Not so great.

16oz can, the can date info is not readable but assumed fresh, poured into a 16oz tumbler glass.
The beer pours a nice golden straw color, good clarity with a few bubbles rising to the top of the glass where a foamy white head rests, moderate retention and spots of lacing. The aroma is pleasant, crisp noble hops, grassy and green, nice earthiness with a light floral bouquet and lots of hearty biscuit. The flavors are good, crisp and refreshing, a bit of citrus, earthy grassiness, lightly floral with lots of assertive biscuit malt. The mouthfeel is great, lively and crisp light body and an easy dry finish.
Verdict: A great Pils from Local Option. Light, refreshing, crisp and lively that is nicely balanced and nicely hopped.

a really splendid pilsener type here, the first beer i have had from local option in a long time, and just a total drinker by any measure. its pale and clean looking, frothy headed from the tap and visibly well carbonated. it smells like clean and crackery european pale barley, pils type malts, slightly raw, organic and earthy and highly compatible with a doughy and flavorful lager yeast strain thats been allowed to contribute. there is a sort of rustic charm to this, not totally a keller type, but with some more character overall than so many of these have, not overly cleaned up or anything, which i think is very much in its favor. some relaxed hops in the finish, noble tasting to me, subtle lime zest and hay and grapefruit, well behind the grain and yeast but adding something intangible here. smooth but high energy feel to it, refreshing and dry but not at all flavorless in the finish, evolved and somewhat bold even for what it is, but drinkable to the highest possible degree. its been way too long since i have had anything from local option, this is a great interpretation of an old world style, authentic and yummy and distinctive. great brew!

On tap at Local Option. Clear golden. Smells of bready and pilsner malt. The faintest spicy hop. Tastes of sweet pilsner and bready malts. Lightly spicy hop notes in the back end, but otherwise pretty bland. Medium light. No fermentation problems at all, but it is a pretty malty and uninteresting pilsner.

Yet another Chicago brewery whose wares I had not tasted. Until now. Good, clean lager. Had on tap at Xoco.
5/31/17 Re-Had. Also on tap, but at famous burger joint, Cheval.
Looks appealing. Smells balanced of light malts and just enough hops. Tastes that way also with an initial sweetness giving way to the spice and letting it take over. Feel is cleansing; good with greasy food.
OA: I will have this again as a refresher or with a sandwich.

Pours a clear crisp effervescent straw color with a nice thick frothy white head. Head dissipates over time leaving some sticky lacing and a thin white film on the beer.
Smell is a nice array of aromas including pilsner hops, cracker malts, floral notes, and a slight sugary sweetness with notes of spice coming through.
Taste is slightly sweet, floral and crackery with a nice hoppy bitterness that tastes like German hops. slightly fruity notes such as apple and pear come through with a nice malt backbone.
Feel is very crisp with medium carbonation. Sweetness slightly coats the mount but is not overly noticeable.
Overall a really fine German Pilsner - one of the better ones I've had. I'll definitely be revisiting this one over the summer.

L: Pours straw with a slight haze under a persistent, clingy white foam collar. Very lacy.
S: Slight biscuity grains with some spicy, floral hops.
T: Crisp, dry and lightly tart with light grains, spice.
F: Medium light body, medium high carbonation, crisp and refreshing.
O: A refreshing, full flavored lager.
