A - Pours a deep dark brown with a 1/4 inch of foam that quickly disappeared.
S - roasted malts, bitter chocolate and a hint of coffee
T - roasted malt flavor with hints of chocolate and coffee, sort of a flat taste but i don't think thats a bad thing in this case
M/D - Not my favorite in the style, but the flavor becomes more complex as it warms. Nice mixture of flavors that subtly change throughout the glass

Really wish i could find the date on this bottle. Taste nothing like any stout i had before. The appearance and taste are just off.

12oz. bottle into a Cigar City snifter.
Pours a rich, 1.5 finger cream colored head with excellent retention. Beer is pitch black and opaque but a bit on the thin side. Lacing is spotty and stringy with good stick. Pretty nice.
Nose is smoke, roast, liquorice, anise, and logan. Aromatic and pleasant but the flavor combination could be a bit sweeter and a touch boozier.
Opens sweet prunes and anise with a dose of liquorice, roast and smoke in the middle. More roast and dark fruit in the middle with a sweet and oddly salty soy sauce presence. Ends sweet and a touch boozy with some logan and coca cola flavors. Aftertaste is honey and more smoke and roast. Solid.
Medium bodied with low carbonation. Smooth and silky in the mouth and goes down soft and warm with a clean finish and barely-there aftertaste. Decent but a touch thin.
This beer reminds me of a Darkness-lite. Flavor and feel is decent but each are a bit... lacking. This could be sweeter and the body could be a bit heavier. The high ABV is hidden well but that's hardly a plus since the ABV doesn't need to be that high to begin with. Solidly average.

Sampled December 2014 from bottles in pint glass.
Appearance: Very dark color, extra thick dark tan head that lasted for a while.
Smell: Sweet with strong coffee aromas, with some toasted/burnt hints as well as some hops bitterness.
Taste: Full-bodied with nice balance of both malt and hops. This is a "big" bear with both the hops and malts. It is dominated by a toasted coffee flavor, and it also includes some chocolate flavor as well. Taste starts sweet with malts, then comes the roasted coffee flavors, and then a little bitterness from the hops. Overall a great combination.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, but smooth.
Overall: Very good stout, and this is a big powerful beer. Best if you enjoy a combination both strong hops and malts. I will buy this again.
