Wow!! Read about this place on BA when my wife said she wanted to drive across the bridge over Lake Pontchatrain. Figured it sounded good and was worth a look-see. Pulled up in front of this unassuming grocery store, walked in looking around for the beer section when I got to the right hand side of the store and realized they had a whole room for beer/wine/alcohol. It's more like a little store attached to the grocery store.

Huge selection of beers. Most can be bought in singles which is terrific for those of us on vacation that want to try as many local beers as possible. A couple of rows of un-refrigerated beers and a whole wall of beer coolers. Most of the craft beers in the coolers was either bombers or imports.

Prices were very reasonable as far as I was concerned.

If you're in the New Orleans area and have a vehicle, this store is definitely worth the drive!

Atmosphere: It's a fairly unassuming supermarket, with a huge alcohol warehouse attached to it.

Quality: Good quality here, big names, as well as various other beer that I've never even heard of. (wine and liquor selection is equal to the task)

Service: Did not really encounter anyone until I got to the register. I prefer the hands off approach though, if I have a question I'll be more than happy to ask.

Selection: Good selection, and as good as any place I've seen in Louisiana.

Food: Didn't try any, but I've heard from people that they do have a pretty sweet deli as well.

Value: I think the value is pretty good, not too pricey, not dirt cheap, but very affordable.

Definitely recommended if you're in the area. It's worth a look.

Stopped by this place during a work trip after seeing a few reviews here on BA. Its basically a supermarket with a pretty good beer selection. There are a lot of beers to choose from but most are rather ordinary; however there are a few gems in the mix. I got a Scotch Silly, a De Struisse Outblack, and a German Hefe (I forgot which). All for like $12. They have lots of Mikkeller single hops, a pretty good belgian selection, and the rest is just nice to see. There are "2" coolers. The macros are kept cold and the craft is kept at 55 degrees (according to the clerk). While I have seen way better stores in my day, this is by far the best store I found north of the Lake. Worth a stop if you are in the area (or worth visiting as often as possible if this is your only source) :)

New Orleans can be a tough place to get an epic beer haul done. But if you've got wheels and a trunk, this is where it happens.

Stein's has some rarities you won't find here (La Trappe Oak Aged, a few Fantome varieties), but Acquistapace's had some too, like a 2010 vintage Pannepot and the Schlenkerla Dopplebock. Most Belgians are on shelves, un-chilled. Big selection. Then there's plenty of cooler space devoted to Germans and Americans, with pretty much everything that makes it to LA available. (I noted only the absence of Pretty Things, which Stein's has.)

On top of a vast selection and lots of room to roam, the prices significantly beat anywhere in New Orleans. Rochefort 10: $6. Green Flash 4-packs: $8.50. The famed Dead Guy growler for $10. Jolly Pumpkins for less than $14!!!

It really is good.

So glad I stopped in at the terrific store last week!

Thank you beer advocate for the Heads Up!

This store is terrific.

Selection is top notch for the MS & LA area. Tons of Mikkeller ( I crave some of their stouts on occasion).
Selection is large. Big coolers full of various brews that are ready to drink. Both bombers and six packs.

Nice selection of hard to find beers on shelves at room temperature.

Clean and very organized!

Got two bottles of Chipolte Porter - one of my favorite Mikkeller brews!

In the small yet overcrowded hamlet of Covington, Louisiana, lies a mom and pop supermarket with a special hidden room. The entrance to this room is painted in wine cellar trappings, to transport the shopper to another realm entirely.
For this is no ordinary room; its vast size is dominated by thousands of wine bottles standing on shelf after shelf in row after row of bubbly nectar goodness.
Move straight ahead, pilgrim, and you will find you heart's desire. On the back wall of this enchanted room sits a beer selection like no other. Kindly refrigerated behind magnificent doors, stand bottles of craft beer, hundreds upon hundreds, with prices so low, one might shake their head in amazement. Popular ales, stouts and pils alongside daring new temptations from far away beckon your indulgence.
Along the floor lie new arrivals, waiting to enter your shopping cart. On the far right, warm brews at eye-popping prices smile lovingly to be taken home.
Acquistapace's is a beer paradise disguised as a 1970's era grocery store. Enter from the left, go straight and discover a beer candy store unheard of in this region of the world.
Might want to ice it down for the trip home. But if you're close by, drive quickly and enjoy.
UPDATE 4/15/2012...Tried one of their overstuffed fried shrimp po-boys. Best po-boy I've ever eaten. A 12" costs 11.99 and worth every penny. Heavy, dressed, spicy and delicious. Don't leave without one!

Me and a buddy took a trip down from MS to check this place out. It's very unassuming when you pull up to park. But, once you walk in and look to the right, you realize they knocked a wall down and built a beer/liquor store that's about a 1/3 the size of the grocery store.

The selection is best I've seen in LA or MS. It doesn't rival stores in the neighboring states (FL or TX) though. There was a wiide selection of Shmaltz brewing, Stone Brewery, Sierra Nevada, Abita and Brooklyn brewery. Other craft brewers and belgian beers were represented as well.

It's worth it to check out if you're in the area or looking to do a day trip.

I have visited Acquistapace's almost every time I've visited the northshore. My parent's have a house in Covington, and I stop in to check what's new. They have a number of brews to pick from. It seems they have an example of almost every style available.

Their liquors section is massive compared to the store as a whole. The liquor section is at least 1/3 of the store itself. They have a large number of wines and spirits as well. The beer takes up the entire cooler section in the rear. Singles, 6-packs, and cases are available. The singles section is 5 cooler doors wide (if I'm not mistaken). It appears to be sorted by country/region. One section is devoted to American craft breweries.

There is an endcap with beer that is not chilled. There are many brews on this endcap that aren't in the cooler.

The only issue that I have is that their one section in the singles cooler where Mikkeller is kept, there is mold on several of the bottles. I've watched it over time, and it seems to have spread to a few other bottles. The mold wasn't there on my first number of visits. I've informed the employees there months ago, but it doesn't seem that anything has really been done.

My roommates and I made the drive from Hattiesburg to Covington for the sole purpose of visiting Acquistapace's after reading the BA reviews. I must say, we didn't leave disappointed.

The wine/liquor/beer section of the store is HUGE. We didn't even bother roaming the rest of the store. They have really good prices on liquor at all levels of sophistication. As for the beer prices...well, I don't have much to compare it to since 90% of these beers can't be sold in MS, but they seemed reasonable to me.

The beer selection is simply incredible. Acquistapace's has a huge wall of coolers stocked with singles from Coney Island, Sierra Nevada, Stone, Rogue, North Coast, Bear Republic, Brooklyn, Unibroe and tons of really interesting beers from European breweries and most of the Trappists. The only thing I wanted to find that wasn't available were offerings from Terrapin, Left Hand, Lost Abbey, Bell's, etc.

As far as service is concerned, keep in mind that this is pretty much your average grocery store. We saw a few store employees walking through the area, but were never asked if we needed anything. I do imagine that they would be happy to help if asked though.

Acquistapace's is a great place to find great beer, especially if you're in the southern part of Mississippi and don't have access to these beers normally. I was slightly disappointed that we only walked away with 3 of BA's Top 100 list, but I imagine that their selection will only continue to expand.

I visited Acquistapace's again yesterday (4/22) and am always pleasantly surprised when I do. Beer selection is always expanding. I shop here fairly often, but wanted to update my review. Not only do they have a great selection but their prices are still great. Example-A six-pack of Sierra Nevada Torpedo is $7.79. Some of the North Coast singles are as little as $1.79. Old Rasputin is now $2.19/single. Since I last reviewed they have added beers from Stone, Brooklyn Brewing, Bayou Teche, NOLA, and several more German and Belgian beers. Service remains great. Was asked on 3 occasions if I needed any help.

I re-visited this place on 12/19/2008 and was pleasantly surprised at the changes since I was last here. The beers used to be in a high traffic crowded area of the store on shelves. They have now moved them to coolers in an easier accessed area. Plus, they now carry about 420 different kinds of beer. Singles of Old Rasputin are still only $1.55. This place is very reasonable and the people are knowledgeable and helpful.

Made my first visit here and was quite impressed with the selection and definitely the price. For example, a 4-pack of Old Rasputin was only $6.20. Very good selection of Rogue, North Coast, Samuel Adams, Flying Dog, Samuel Smith, Mendocino, Abita, Heiner Brau, Bear Republic, Sierra Nevada, Anchor, German Beers, Belgians, etc. Several others that I cant remember at this time. Staff offered help on several occasions. Very nice experience will definitely lead me to return. Only bad thing is they have the beers in a high traffic area of the store.

The best place to buy beer (and liquor) on the northshore (and maybe even in the state of LA!). Since I live a/b 30 mins away, I try to make monthly or bi-weekly visits to stock up on new beers. A plethora of cold singles available at the best prices you'll find anywhere. This place used to be called the IGA and has been there forever, feels like you're stepping back in time (to the 80's) when you walk in. Just make sure you make it to the beer selection (right and back), it's worth the journey.

Don't expect some new fancy modern type store, this is old school and I'm guessing because the fact this place was paid for 15 years ago is how they can sell at such great prices.

I just wish I had one closer. :)

I don't think I could ask for a better place to have within a short driving distance to buy my beer. For starters, they boast the biggest selection of beer in the state of Louisiana. The beer/wine room is nearly half the size of the whole store. My girlfriend hates going there with me because I can spend a very long time just looking at everything they have to offer. I can typically go to a normal place and after a few visits, exhaust new desirable selections to try. Every time I go to the Acquistapace, I leave with an average of 6 beers, nothing that I have ever gottan before. The staff is amazing. The manager (the owners son I believe) is extremely helpful, is glad to consider suggestions to carry, and you can tell he is genuinely passionate about beer, wine, ect.
To put a top on this already amazing place, the prices are phenominal. Most selections are 50 cents to $1 cheaper than you can find anywhere else. Simply put; you will pay way less here than you will anywhere matter what it is. You will not find a better place to shop beer in the state of Louisiana, and I'm thankful that.

Acquistapace is a great place to get good craft beer in South Louisiana. Located in Covington, La, i'm always there because thats where my fiance's family lives, so it always gives me a good chance to get good beer. The selection is great, and the styles vary which is always good. They had everything from Abita, Anchor, Flying dog, Rogue, North Coast, Paulaner, lots of German beers (hefes and lagers), plenty of Belgian varieties. I feel like i'm not doing the selection justice, but you have to trust me on this one. I've been here a few times and theres always someone who is there to ask if i need help. But on this time I met Adam, the store owners son, and we talked about beer for like 20 mins. Exceptional service. If you're ever in the area, this is a must stop. The prices are great too, the are very low when it comes to the singles, so I always stock up.

Acquistapace's is a supermarket located at the very end of Boston St. You can email them any questions you might have and they will respond very quickly. Adam the store owner's son is very well versed in all things beer. This place has one of the best selections I have ever seen. They carry all my favorite dopple bocks, hefeweizens, and IPAs. They have Weihenstephaner, Aventinus, Shipyard, Rogue, Spaten, Paulaner, and so many craft beers it will make your mouth water. Also they will order anything they carry for you so you won't have to be disappointed if they don't have it. All items are sold as singles for the same unit price as the six pack. Awesome quality, service, and selection all around...

Considering that I am from Mississippi, this place is like beer heaven. Obviously, that is because of all of the 6.xx+ beers available. Many of the craft/import bottles are stocked as singles.

I bought only fifteen beers (and one sixer of Torpedo), and I merely scraped the surface of the selection. Included in my purchases were beers from Abita (of course), Anchor, North Coast, Chimay, Delirium, Duvel, Eel River, Fuller's, Mikkeller, Orval and Sierra Nevada. Several microbreweries' offerings are on the shelves, and they have a nice amount of imports.

Since the beer is at the far end of the wine/liquor room, I was standing in front of a somewhat high-traffic area for quite some time. However, neither the staff nor other customers seemed to mind me being there. The cashier acted like she saw beer-only customers all the time.

All but a couple of my purchases were recognised by the scanner. The cashier also accidentally scanned the bottom of the mixed six pack holder, but that was quickly corrected.

I have only been to Acquistapace's twice, but I have not yet had a bad beer from there. Since the store offers one of the best selections around, I will definitely be back.

Acquistapace's in Covington has probably the best beer selection in Louisiana besides Stein's Deli in New Orleans. They have a great selection from Mikkeller, Sam Adams, Troegs, Rogue, Anchor, Hitachino, Abita, and lots of Belgian, English and German brews.

The service is good. Almost every time I've been there, someone has asked if I needed assistance and have been more than willing to check on a price or let me know what's new.

The best part is the value. Acquistapace's prices are great compared to Stein's and Whole Foods. I have no complaints about quality either. Check this place out if you're on the Northshore or even make a trip from New Orleans.

This is the best place that I have been to in southern Louisiana for beer. Still not the best selection I've seen, but pretty good. The American beers (especially from the northwest and northeast) were lacking here. I noticed a few common beers like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale absent from the selection. However, what was lacking in domestic beers was well made up for in the foreign selection. Aquistapace had the best selection of Belgium and Dutch beers I've seen in the area. The service was great too as all of their employees took time away from stocking to talk to the customers about beer. They were decently informed and even made recommendations. The best thing about Aquistapace is the prices of beer (as well as wine or liquor) here. Many of the import beers here ranged from being 10%-30% cheaper than any other place I've seen in southern Louisiana. Also, this is the first place I've seen that doesn't mark up singles when they are divided out of a six pack. Great place.

Aquistapace has recently expanded their wine/liquor section to a full warehouse-sized offering. The beer selection here equals or betters anything available in LA, MS, or AL and betters much of TX. Everything from the local Abita/Heiner offerings to the finest stuff from BE (Drie Fonteinen, Dupont, Orval, etc). The service is decent, though more focused toward the wine side of things. The prices are quite competitive with most out-of-state shops and better than anywhere else around. A must-visit if one is in the area.

this is probably the best beer store i have been to in louisiana so far, just ahead of martin's and whole foods in metairie. i was able to score the following stuff, but didn't come close to touching what all they have. the photos the reviewer provided a few reviews down are good representations of what this store has to offer.
they had offereings from mikkeller, rogue, jolly pumpkin, north coast, bear republic, harviestoun, full sail, flying dog linnemans, kulmbacher, westmalle, chimay, a couple other trappist breweries, a good many german and belgin beers i can't remember the names of.

this place is worth a visit.

Tucked away next to the produce section in neighborhood grocery store in Covington, LA is a nice little surprise for quality-starved beer fans in south Louisiana and Mississippi. Acquistapace's is a slight drive along I-12 from Slidell or Hammond, a decent drive along I-12 from Baton Rouge or across the Causeway from Metairie and New Orleans, and a greater drive in from Hattiesburg, Jackson, or Biloxi, but in this grocery store you will find what is quite possibly the best beer selection of any bar, restaurant, brewpub, or beer shop in the entire region.

Right when you enter the grocery store, you will move to the right after getting a shopping cart, and the beer section is right in front of you and curving around the wall towards the produce section. There are four sets of shelves with between five and seven rows of beer on each shelf. The beer is broken up by region, brewery, and style. The variety includes English, Scottish, Italian, German, Belgian, Czech, Russian and other European beverages, as well as drinks from Japan, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Mexico, and the USA. There are also local offerings from Abita, Heiner Brau, and Zea available. The shelves are kept stocked, and the number of options shouldn't leave you wanting. I'm not sure what the exact available bottle count is, but it should currently be somewhere over 350 bottles and the people in charge intend to get as many different products as they can from the distributors.

Every beer that I have bought from this store so far has been fresh, and the product seems to be turning over in store nicely. The seasonal selection was updated between our last two visits, and some of the stock on the shelves was not all the way to the back of the shelf. If you see something that you want but there are not enough bottles on the shelf, the staff of the store can usually get you what you need out of the storerooms. There is also a section of refrigerated beers in the opposite corner of the grocery store, but it is currently largely macro domestic and import products.

The two people in charge of the beer, wine, and spirits section in the store are the owner's sons, and they are very friendly and seem happy to talk with the customers. We've spoken with one or the other on both of our trips to the store so far, and they don't mind checking to see if something you'd like will be coming in stock or is even available in the region. Their prices are very competitive, and if you buy several beers each time you come if you're driving in from a more remote location, you'll cover the gas money for the trip. They may not have every single thing that you want in the store just yet, but they're putting forth the effort to try and get it, which is commendable. These guys are appreciative of your business, and you will probably appreciate doing business with them yourself to the tune of multiple repeat visits. I actually look forward to taking the trip here along I-12 myself, and there's not many things in the world that could make me feel that way.

I visited Acquistapace's on Saturday March 1st, 2008 as the primary stop on a beer buying road trip from Jackson, MS. Upon walking into the grocery store one is naturally directed into the beer display. It is in a high traffic area of the store, however no other customers seemed irritated at my lingering in the busy location. Nearly all the beers have been priced down from their original cases so that they can be economically sold as individual bottles. The selection was also thoughtfully organized by region of origin and style.

The staff was extraordinarily friendly and the beer buyer gave suggestions and talked with us about beer for nearly an hour. He also discussed openly with us his future plans and his expectation to have several new beers within the next month, or basically as soon as the distributors get new things. Finally the check-out staff was anticipating our carts full of bottles and welcoming to the time we would require. They handled all the items with care and nearly every bottle scanned successfully saving time and reflecting the care with which each item had been inventoried.

I was encouraged to call the store about current product availability and I am confident others could do the same. For an example of the selection please visit the link below, which contains four high resolution pictures that can be expanded to see the product name and price for nearly every beer in the store on March 1, 2008.

Stopped in and is definitely on of the best selections I have seen in a while. Especially in terms of new beer. Rogue Irish Lager, Imperial Stout, Troeggs hopback, Mikkeler barleywine, and Sam Adams cream stout were just a few I haven't seen anywhere else in south LA. Prices were awesome, some of the lowest i've seen around. The 2 sons of the owner run the beer section, and were there when I stopped in. When I asked them about all the stuff they had, they said they were committed to getting everything they could get their hands on in Louisiana. They said they get stuff that most stores don't, because quite frankly the other store are too lazy to order it. I told them they would definitely have my return business. Also told them to try and get Stone, Great Divide, Sweetwater, Live Oak, and all the other craft brews that are available around the country. They promised they would get everything they could. Worth a stop, as their beer selection will only grow better.

We were fed up with the shrinking beer selection in south Louisiana and decided to make the trip to Covington as sort of a last resort. Man did it pay off! Many new beers which I had't seen in South LA. Rouge Imperial Stout 2007, Mikkler Barelywine, Rouge Kells Irish Lager, Troegs Hop Back, and many others. Belgians like St. Bernardus and Caracole will be returning to this store as well. They had many North Coast brews, as well as Bear Republic. There were also a few Lambics I had not seen before. The help was fantastic. They were very obligated to hearing what we thought of the selection, what else they should try to get, and what their competition had to offer. Adam, the store owners son, is the one in charge of the beer area, and he is very willing to help you out with anything. The selection might seem small but it's growing very large from what Adam told me. These guys seem to be dedicated to being the best beer store in south Louisiana. The prices were quite reasonable as well. This place is well worth the trip!
