BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Barrio Brewing Company
Arizona, United States
barriobrewing.com

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewed just like the original from Burton upon Trent. This style calls for a high hop rate combined with an elevated alcohol content because it was brewed to survive the journey from England to Bombay as rations for British troops. Huge amounts of two row pale malt with an addition of a few specialty malts provides a nice mouth feel buried under copious additions of Columbus hops. This beer is big but finishes clean.

A: dark orange to brown color.. active carbonation streaming up and sticking to glass.. left a lot of lacing.

S: pine needles with a balancing act from the caramel/toffee maltiness.. some citrus notes as well..

T: pines with some light grapefruit upfront.. mid palate is a healthy dose of caramel/toffee malt flavor.. finish is a soft grapefruit like bitterness & some spicy tones..

Mf: good medium bodied with good carbonation.

O: for an AZ beer, too east coast for me in the IPA category... but overall, a simple good IPA..

On tap at Barrio Brewing Company. Great brewery in Tucson, Az, stop on by if you are in the neighborhood.

A - Somewhere between orange and light brown. Lovely appearance.

S - Hop and malt. Smell is very balanced between the two. Wonderful nose of citrus hop.

T - More towards east coast and English style IPA's. More balanced with regards to hops and malt than most of the west coast IPA's I've been addicted to lately. A really good mouthful of hops and malt.

O - Great brew from a great brewery. Wonderful IPA, a nice change of pace from the super hoppy west coast IPA's.

Cheers!

Poured from a growler into a pint glass.

A: Poured a copper color witha huge head that really lasts and abundant lacing that really sticks.

S: Hoppy. A big grapefruit smell with a little pine followed by malt and grain.

T: Taste follows smell. Big grapefruit taste. Juicy and tasty.

M: More full-bodied than I expected. Very easy to drink.

O: I really like this beer. It is easy to drink. There is a nice balance of hops and malts that makes it interesting. I will recommend it and have it again.

On tap at OHSO, 9/21/12.

A-pours a golden copper, medium white head has decent retention.

S- very appealing. Citrus and pine. Good aromatics!

T-quite tasty. Good go character with a very solid malt backbone. More crystal malt than I expect from a west Coast IPA but well done.

M-medium bodied, crisp carbonation.

O-very drinkable. One of the best IPAs from AZ that I have tasted.

12 oz can poured into pint glass

L - Cloudy, hazy golden color with some metallic haze and a fluffy (fittingly) white head that sticks to the glass and leaves a good half-inch lacing throughout and good carbonation.

S - Citrus, orange rind, grapefruit, lemon, grass, pine, slightly metallic hops

T - Tastes how it smells. Sweet honey citrus up front, bitter orange rind with a slight hop finish. Nicely balanced, though more of a "fruitier" IPA without an overpowering bitterness.

F - Medium bodied, slightly creamy, moderately carbonated, effervescent bite up front. The sweetness keeps it drinkable and it has a nice, dry finish.

O - A nice example of a fruit-forward American-style IPA. Not too sweet, not too overpoweringly bitter like some other IPAs. Maybe more of a pale ale, but a good offering from a local brewery I'm slightly partial towards.
