Chilled bomber into a snifter, split with ramnuts in PDX.

A: Poured an opaque brown with a thin tan head. Retention is pretty short, and there isn't much lacing. Sadly, I think this category is going to be the deal-breaker for an otherwise enjoyable stout.

S: Milk chocolate, oatmeal, roasted malt, and coffee. Pleasant and solid.

T: Leads with chocolate and roasted malt. On the sweeter side, but oatmeal / grain characteristics mellow it out in the mid-taste, leaving room for coffee to bring it to a slightly bitter finish. Roast in the aftertaste. There are mild fruity characteristics throughout, mostly plum, but there isn't a specific point in which they enter.

M: Medium-full bodied; low carbonation. Very creamy and rests well on the palate.

D: This beer isn't an imperial this-or-that, so I think it'll get missed by most, but it is a pretty solid beer. Hopefully it'll get some recognition as a regular purchase by locals. I don't remember the price, but I think it was pretty affordable. While it's not as excellent as some others (Velvet Merlin comes to mind), it's solid enough that I'll buy it again.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into small snifter. All I had available chief.

Pours a deep black with a small less than 1 finger deep tan bubbly head.

Smells of sweet milk, oats, chocolate, and some faint coffee. I like.

Toasted malts, nice chocolate like bitterness, sweet malted milk, plum, fruity. Tasty.

Smooth, creamy, full bodied, low carbonation.

My favorite brew so far from Santa Cruz Ale Works. Will buy again when I have some money as right now I'm poor. Broke ass poor. Chose to buy this over some stupid ass bananas. Werd.

Color is opaque brown with a dark tan head. The smell is mostly of toast. Taste notes include: oatmeal, molasses, and roasted malt. Mouthfeel not as creamy as others in this style, but taste is perfectly on point--aftertaste and finish are rich and roasty.

Mmm...had this the other night while watching a movie. It poured a very dark brown with creamy beige head that left good lacing. Smelled of fruit, grains, and alcohol. Tasted like chocolatey malts, grains, and a little bit of toffee. Was very smooth, though slightly overcarbonated. Wanted more when it was over.

Served on draft at Hopyard in San Ramon.

Typical stout in appearance. Near black in body, smallish tan head with good retention. Lacing is very good.

Aroma is fairly subdued with bitter chocolate as the most noticeable characterictic.

The chocolately bitterness is even more pronounced on first sip along with some pleasant roasted malt flavors. Leaves me wishing for more complexity though. I'm picking up a surprising amount of alcohol aftertaste for a medium ABV beer. Mouthfeel is sufficiently thick and creamy to meet the demands of the style but not as much so as some better examples I've had.

Not bad. I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again if I see it on tap but I likely won't knock another stout out of rotation in favor of this one.

On tap at the Parish Publick House. Amazing cascading carbonation. Dark brown with red hues, light beige foam, lots of lacing. Powdery chocolate aroma with some roasted malt. Flavor is roasted with semisweet chocolate and a dry, burnt coffee finish. A little too watery overall.
