Here's this year's version, on cask at the KS in La Jolla. Nice foam on the amber brew. Big hoppy taste with lots of fresh and zingy aromatics. Brewery says hops are Chinook and Cascade, and 7.0% ABV for the 2011 batch. Plenty of pine and resins in the flavors with just a little harshness. Spicy and hot with hop oils. Rich flavor and deep aroma of flowers. Grapefruit is the aftertaste. Well carbonated and a full mouthfeel.
Hugely hopped but not excessively bitter, which may disappoint some. Another well-flavored but extremely drinkable Karl Strauss offering.

Cask
Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA
**Double dry hopped with Nelson hops**
Deep orange and auburn with a pillowy, creamy head. Lots of sticky lacing left down the glass.
This beer is not very aromatic, but what's here is citrusy, grassy, and slightly bready. Pleasant, but faint.
The flavor is somewhat bland, boring, and nearly flavorless. I don't get any of the typical Nelson hop flavors I've become familiar with, unfortunately. A moderately bitter, grassy IPA is all that's here. Simple and one note, though certainly drinkable. Average.
Medium bodied with low carbonation.
A decent, though boring and bland IPA. I was really hoping for more Nelson hop flavor.

Cask service from the hand pump into a long-stemmed tulip glass. When questioned about the choice of glass, the server explained that they serve all beers over 6.5% abv in the smaller glass.
A: Rich orange-gold color and opaque with thick haze. Less than one finger of white foam head vanishes quickly. Light lacing remains on the glass.
S: Bright, fresh citrusy and floral American hops. Unfortunately the smell diminishes over time, becoming less intense.
T: Pale malt and muted grapefruit are interrupted by acidic, slightly rancid butter. The bitter finish is pronounced, demonstrating some cascade hop character.
M: Palpable grit of yeast destroys what would otherwise be light-medium viscosity. Light carbonation fails to penetrate the heaviness of the yeast.
D: When I show up for a Karl Strauss Cask Night, I expect to experience one of their generally "safe" beers in a new and more exciting way. This rendition of Tower 10 IPA is a resounding disappointment, completely failing to outshine the standard draft or bottled variety. I will remember this particular firkin as a veritable comedy of errors.

@ the Universal City location
App- A orange/auburn color with a head that doesnt seem to hold.
Ar- Citrus and pineapple come to mind, along with Grapefruit. Also I get a Sweet fruit note (other than Pineapple)
T- WOW. a much better version than the "original" (I mean in bottle not Stargazer)
Piney right up front, def. get a dry hopped aroma; Cascade and probably Amarillo!!?!
Mf- was decent, Bubbles and citrus/acidity
Dr- was good compare to O.G. but... a much better "attempt/version" but lacked a bit of; body?!?
