The beer pours a cloudy amber color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is average. It has a yeast extract scent with some light caramel malt and hop aroma. The taste is average as well. It has a light and easy drinking red ale flavor; pale and crystal malts, mild hop flavor. It's balanced, yet lacking complexity. It goes down easy and finishes with some slight off flavor. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a low/medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a refreshing beer, but the malt character just isn't there. It's an extract kit and it tastes like one. All in all, most non beer geeks will enjoy it.

The Scalehouse red ale is a clear, red bodied ale with a thin off-white head that leaves a few scraps of lacing behind despite having fairly poor retention.

The aroma has a hint of hops, some pale malt, and some sweet toffee-like malt. Pretty straight forward.

This is a pretty simple red ale. A light dash of hops, a mix of pale malts with a caramel or toffee malt base. The yeast adds a little bit of fruitiness, but also a strange off-taste (that it adds to all of the beers at the scalehouse).

The beer is adequately carbonated and has enough body.

Overall, this beer is pretty underwhelming, but its not terrible either. I would definitely prefer having this than no craft beer option at all.

Off tap at the brewery this red ale was a light garnet color. The head was thin and retained itself poorly leaving only streaks of lacing. The aroma was weak, the flavors sharp, tangy and... skunked? No nuts, minimal crystal malt, nothing much to speak of with only hints of hops. Clearly an extract beer and for a brewpub beer it was, well, just kinda, bad. The mouthfeel was ok, the body medium and the carbonation medium/low.
