-pours a slightly cloudy, light brown with a thin head
-very faint malt sweetness on the nose
-no sign of hops in aroma or taste
-very simple flavor, i pick up a faint taste of raisins but it fades fast

-Am I missing something? Is this all this beer has to offer?

500ml bottle. Fluted mug. Deep brass color, veiled apperance. Off-white froth creates a close, thick & lasting head. Sweet maltiness, hints of honey & Noble hops to the nose. Sweet malts & floral hoppiness at first sip. Light to medium body. Moderate to high carbonation. Dense to watery texture. Sweet sensation is kept by green fruit & floral slight flavors just at the edge of cloyiness. Sweet finish. Herbal & floral infusion on the aftertaste.

Bought and drank in Celle, Germany.

A - medium to light brown- amber with good clarity. The label says its unfiltered?? doesnt seem like it...maybe my translation is off. Not much lacing, head disappears quickly.
s - mild scent of hops.
T - average lager, not overly bitter or sweet. Relatively strong for a lager.
M - light to medium body, with average carbonation. Very smooth.
O - Decently good beer, I would be happy to get this at a bar once in a while. That being said I don't think I would ever pick this up at a store again, i'd probably want something with a little more flavor and depth.

Look: It pours a cloudy light brown with tinges of orange.

Smell: It has a rich, sweet malt aroma that has a bready smell to it. There are also aromas of grass and hints of floral. There is an off aroma that I can quite place that adds funk to it.

Taste: It has tastes of grassy hops, with slight floral and some fruity esters.

Feel: It has a light feel on the heavy side towards moderate. It is a smooth drinking beer with no bitterness and a sweet finish.

Overall: The taste was highlighted by the malts and hops in balance with the fruit esters adding some complexity.

Pleasant unfiltered malty beer.

The slight cloudiness makes an appealing glassful. Slightly brownish amber in color. Has an interesting flavor-- maybe it's the yeast. Not a rich beer, but has a lot of mouthfeel with the velvety carbonation. Malty flavors with a hint of caramel. Modest hop taste but nicely balanced. Not as interesting as some but an interesting style and quite drinkable. One of these and I would look for some other variety of flavor, however.

I bought this beer a few weeks ago when i was in Germany. Bottle best before februari 2012.

Poured in a dutch beerglass this beer has some problems to give a decent head. I had to pour it in the glass with some strenght before it gave some.

Darkyellow fluid, nice for an unfiltered beer. Little carbonation. Smell and taste of banana and bread. This is not a spectacular beer to be honest. I have had better German beers. Overall i can say this is a drinkable beer with a soft taste but simply not a shocking beer....

Look- amber color, big foam head and frothy lace that retains well.
Smell- Caramel, toffee and honey. Hint of apples. Overall, very sweet.
Taste- sweet on the tongue. As with the aroma, the honey and caramel taste is there. Malty and raw grain, fruity, apple like. Slick feel, but with some dryness on the back end, and very mild hops presence.
Feel- light bodied, oily, little carbonation, overall, a simple brew.
I don't know much about this style. It is interesting and tasty at times. Will revisit.

500ml bottle served in a chalice.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy dark amber to brown (nutty) color forming a big and thin bubbled light beige head. Small retention and a lot of small spotty lacings left in the glass

S: Sweet and buttery with notes of caramel and roasted malts. Ashy and earthy. Light flowery hops in the end

T: Follows the nose. Slightly sweet grains in upfront. Very earthy in the mouth with some notes of roasted malts and ashes. Biscuity notes of diacetyl. Bready and Lager-like yeasts. Light but pleasant hops bitterness

M: Light body and medium carbonation. Bready, grainy and slightly sweet aftertaste

O: Good drinkability like a good German Lager should be. Charming

On tap at Wurstkuche in Downtown Los Angeles, CA.

Yeasty, light, rotten apple-ish (in a good way), but nothing too impressive. Sedated like the Beatles on LSD, but not as colorful.

A bit above average.

Pours into a half liter stein a dull lemon tinged tea color with a thick creamy lightly carbonated head atop.Caramel malts with some mild grass to go along with the expected dough aspect.A mellow feel wich is spot on for the style, very smooth.A sweet pizza dough flavor with some stone fruits melding into a slightly spicy herbal drying finish. Not bad...the feel is superb but not an overly complex palate, seems heavier than what it is.

On tap at The Back Abbey in Claremont, CA.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, fruit, and grassy aromas. Taste is much the same with grain and grassy flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some nice grassy hop aromas and flavors that make it easy to drink.

On draught at Gustav's, served in a 1/2 liter Paulaner mug, Aktien Zwick'l Kellerbier is clear pale auburn with a small eggshell head leaving pretty nice lace.

Smell is on the faint side, some sulfur, a touch of fruity esters that bloom as it warms.

Taste is mostly bready cereals with a firm yeast (not ester) note. Not a particularly complex beer, a very faint hint of caramel.

Mouthfeel is on the dry, crisp side, but there is some roundness to the medium body.

Drinkability is ok, the yeast add a bit more then your average maltier lager, but it's a pretty simply flavored brew otherwise.

A: The beer is dark yellowish amber in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving a short head covering the surface, a collar around the edge of the glass, and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light to moderate aromas of apples and yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of yeast and apples, along with a little sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink, but doesn't seem to have as much complexities in the taste compared to other beers I've had in the style.

0.5 l. bottle, bough on a recent trip to Germany.

Amber colour, thin head, but good lacing.
Smell and taste are mainly just malts and yeast, but nice fresh clean ones. Mild floral and grassy hops.
Aftertaste is very balanced. Nothing but malty sweetness, mild bitter hops.
Allthough a bit watery in the mouth, this Aktien beer has more refreshing character than the Landbier I tried earlier. It's a well crafted, but simple drink.
Good one to try.

A hazy light amber beer, a white head that leaves little lacing but a few curtains.

Sweet syrup tones, then some alkaseltzer and apples. Really not bad!

Tasting of burnt bread, brown sugar, fruity, apples and pears.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, smooth texture and a good body.

A straight honest (dark) lager.

Honey amber with lots of trailers of bubbles and shaving cream froth that rims.
Fresh dark honey with some bread dough and butterscotch.
Lots of toasty malts, a touch of yellow apple, a bit of caramel, a bready yeast hit and earth and spicy hops.
Caraway finish and cut hay linger.
Light, round, crisp.

First Zwickel. This threw me at first because this seems to strip out everything interesting about Keller and leave a toasty O'fest-type beer. As you get into it, though, you get the same balanced, even bitterness, and easy drinking as in a solid English session bitter.

Missing the depth of character I look for from an unfiltered lager, but has a thing of its own going on.

on tap at the new rhein haus in denver, and its just delicious. this is a style i would love to see more of, i love the yeasty bigness, maturity, and depth. it always sort of reminds me of this time of year. i dont know if thats traditional or not, but thats what i think of. cloudy for sure, with a huge white head on it served in a small hefeweizen glass. its darker than a hefe, but just by a shade or two. i smell the german yeast right away, and wheat, definitely wheat based. there is a patient sort of character to this, beyond richness, but like almost overly developed on its flavor profile. less fresh maybe on the grain and hops, but there is bitterness for sure, and the contribution of the yeast is what its all about. i have not had enough of these to compare this to the best out there, all i know is that its awfully good, and seemingly traditional as can be. wouldnt change a thing, although there is a lot of body to this and it sits just a tad heavy in the gut. this is hearty old world beer at its finest. hopefully get to try some other stuff from these folks...

Comes out of the tap a clear, dark amber with a nice wheat head. Malty aroma has a powdery fruity overtone. Fruit, mainly apple with a little pear and a little banana and a little - cherry? - dominates the malty flavor, which is subtly sweet and has a hint of cloves. Smooth texture has firm body and a nice amount of fizz. Prosit (or prost, whatever).

Pours a finger of head on a dark straw body.
The aroma is bold caramel malt and ripe plum. Nice.
The taste has caramel throughout, a little lemon bitterness, more dark fruits.
The texture is lighter with nice carbonation.
It's fairly flavorful for the style and good.

Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip. Bottled 12/20/13.

Look - Hazy dark brown amber; almost opaque. Thin half finger of head and lots of streaky lacing.

Smell - Smells a tad adjunct-ish if I really strain my nostrils, but the overarching aroma is fresh grain accented by citrusy aroma and clove

Taste - Rich and malty sweet with some nice fruity jam overtones, a slightly bitter hop aftertaste, and a very clean finish. I see people say this one finishes dry, but I didn't get that from this one. Interesting; the months of age on this one might be the culprit there.

Feel - This one drinks really darned easily but hits your stomach with some weight, so be careful. It's not heavy in the mouth, but it is in the gut.

Overall - An enjoyable German brew, really easy to drink, though I wouldn't call it sessionable. It's filling!

This was my first "cellar beer" and I will always remember the fun of drinking from its earthenwear mug. (My bartender always had to ask if I was done!)

The particles in the unfiltered sediment must give you superpowers - I've felt weak ever since my favorite Hoff stopped carrying it.

Beyond that, its body is satisfying and thick, with a beautiful long tail and a hearty aroma.
