an exceptionally good helles, the first i have seen of this stuff on tap in denver, drinkable forever, a good daytime beer, and a pretty classic example of the style on the light side. golden in the half liter mug, perfectly clear, and with just a ton of bubbles rising up amassing an inch of white head, it looks old school and clean and delicious, and indeed it is. aroma is light on the hops, even less than i am used to in one of these, but the malt is distinctive, pils-esque but a bit lighter, the mineral profile of the water seems distinctive, and the yeast is a classic lager, done cool and patient. the flavor is simple but the balance is right on, a very crisp and dry finish, minimal body but not too thin, and with a ton of carbonation. again the minerals in the water are nice, kind of enriching to the beer, and the grain tastes fresh to me compared to a lot of other importer pale lager types i see around. pleasant with heavier foods, german cuisine and such, but also just fully satisfying on its own. i wish there were more beers like this from the old country around, but i was stoked to find this today down at the chinook tavern in the tech center. crisp and refreshing and really no glass of this would be too big...

Like well water filtered through straw, Plenty of mineral notes, but clean and pure.

0.5l bottle, rocks glass, 110219 on the back label.

Even as light layers go, this one is a pale, pale shade of yellow. The head is clearly pretty good and also a light shade of white. I also give it point for the label design; it’s very classy and attractive in its simplicity, avoidance of the overused monk, and colors.

There’s a light skunk and mineral. It’s difficult to discern any other aromas.

Disappointingly, the label has more substance than the aroma or flavor. There’s a slight leafiness and ghosts of pale malt, and honestly it’s a bit sweet.

Probably the best part is the balanced mouthfeel.

The aesthetics of the label really got my expectations up on this one, but they should spend more on ingredients and less on a design team perhaps.

More on the lager side of a Hell beer, but not in a bad way. The malt and hops are well balanced and neither is too prominent on its own. Full mouthfeel.

Pours a bright golden color with a froth, huge head.

Smells of wet hay, toffee and dried leaves, tied together by a metallic note.

Has a smooth, soft mouthfeel among a very light bodied beer, showcasing a well nuanced effervescence during the finish.

Tastes of a herb infused melange of white bread dough and caramel malts, enriched by a note of sun bathed straw. Develops a short bonbon sweetness during mid palate, drowned by an aqueous metallicness. Finishes still very sweet, but with a calming touch of herbal hops and da aqua.

Starts nice, but looses its balance then to a sugary malt sweetness, distracting from an otherwise very well made beer.

500ml bottle from shop in Alexanderplatz, Berlin (approx. €1.60):
This one can only be classed as a terrible lager, the beer was cheap & bordered on nasty at times with only a faint touch of sweetness & basic hops hinting at anything in the way of flavours. There was some skunk & vegetable adjuncts at times which wasn't exactly what I'd hoped for going into this one & it was easily one of the worst beers I tried on my recent trip to German; a definite one to avoid for me.

From the bottle, it pours a clear light golden with a modest head. A bit of grass in the nose, and the mouth gets some as well. Relatively dry finish. Easy drinking light lager.

A great go-to brew. Light dry feel. Carbonated and easy drinking. Nice golden color. Slight thin head. Subtle hop finish. Nice grain front. I like this basic drinker.

On tap at Die Stamme Kneipe (DSK) in Brooklyn. Great place.

Poured perfectly. Nose is a little more interesting than actual taste: grassy and grainy, and reminds me of the hamster food pellets from my youth. In a good way. Taste is even-keeled and malt-driven. Grassy earth notes stay on the tongue long after. A bit boring, but excessively drinkable (I find it boring only because I was in the mood for something more aggressive - not Bayreuter's fault).

Good work.

On tap at Prost-Boise. Perfect Helles, huge fluffy head, nice grainy, malty nose. Taste is smooth, delicious, silky texture, Haven't had a Helles this good in a while.

On tap at Biergarten in LaGuardia Airport.

This one pours a clear sunny yellow color, with a half inch head, lots of bubbles, and s bit of lacing.

Smells pretty classically helles, lite grassy hops, slightly bready and crackery malt, and some light lager fruity esters.

The taste runs pretty similar. It's tastiness comes from its subtle bready malt flavors, light grassiness from the hops, and it's really nice drinkability. I get a bit of pear, which I assume to be from the yeast.

This has a crisp and snappy mouthfeel, with a high level of carbonation.

A simple but very drinkable Helles here. I definitely enjoyed it.
