2013 bottle purchased at the brewery. 750 mL. Poured into a mini-snifter.

The beer pours from the bottle somewhat fizzy, but little head is produced. A thin wisp of head quickly dissipates and leads to a thin layer of lace at the outside of the liquid. There's good color and clarity to the body, dark brown with amber hues and some trickling carbonation. 4

I'm feeling this aroma. Tartness meets malt. I smell some tart cherry. Acidity is detectable but not over the top or vinegary. 4

Consistency from nose to palate, although I'd say there's less of the maltiness I'd want or expect from the style. It's tart and acidic, with a bit of a bright and fruity finish. I'm getting a little bit of vinegar flavor here, but it's again, not offensive. 3.5

It's hard not to discuss aspects of the mouthfeel as tastes with a beer like this, so as I've mentioned, it's acidic, slightly vinegary, and has faint malt thickness. It drinks lightly with spritely carbonation and a tart finish. 3.75

I like this beer, but it doesn't nail the style as their Kriek does. That one is superb, this one is good.

Reviewed as [17C. Flanders Brown Ale/Oud Bruin]

A: Sour, tart notes that are similar to cherry. Low malt sweetness and no hops.

A: Brown color body with off tan head that is very thin and is non persistent. It can be revived by swirling.

F: High tartness upfront that is puckering that fades into a smooth sweetness of cherries. No hops. As it warms up, there is less tartness and more malt sweetness.

M: Harsh puckering upfront that quickly dissipates. Medium carbonation with medium body.

O: A very tart, sour note is very pronounced that dissipates quickly into a sweet fruit like note. Time would help the sour mellow out and be better. More visible carbonation (head retention) would be better.
