I'm always a little hesitant when I see a soured version of a beer I like, especially when its a style (porter) that only lends itself to souring in the 19th century.
Red wax. Pours dark brown. Beige head 1/2" deep. Aroma definitely is different, instead of roasted barley, you get acetic acid kind of vinegar and red wine notes. Further back in the nose there are some barrel notes of wood, bourbon and chocolate maltiness.
Taste still leads with the vinegar like presence, provides drying back drop afterwards. Good carbonation on it. The dark fruit tang and sour notes keep coming. Drinks just as much like a more session like Russian Imperial Stout as it does an American porter, if not more.
File this one under, "I prefer just the normal beer." And yet I dug New Glarus's old world porter. I dunno, in the back of my mind I'm always wondering if they just tried to salvage an unintentionally spoiled batch of beer.

Deep, dark brown body; initial combination creamy in the middle/fizzy on the edges head, settles into a one-finer thick, light tan head. Tart, raspberry-like aroma; red wine; faint elements of roasted grain. Mainly tart and sour flavor. Medium-light in body; sharp and acidic on the palate; some husky grain dryness.
Not a bad beer for a sour yet it lacks any defining porter qualities other than the color. Somewhat thin and vinegary overall.

Appearance: After a bit of spuming from the bottle, the beer pours fudge colored, with a frothy head that fades rather quickly; plenty of lacing action, though
Smell: Acetic vinegar mingles with chocolate powder and earthy tones
Taste: Acetic from the outset, with earthy tones underneath; hints of chocolate and dark berries develop; the finish is dry, sour and oaky, with the barrel lingering in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; quite puckery
Overall: The Brett has really taken over this beer and it is an acetic strain (unless there are other undisclosed wild yeast varieties in the mix); interesting, but still nothing compares to the New Glarus sour porter I tasted a few years back
Thanks, sunkistxsudafed, for the opportunity

Poured into a sniffer. The seal is annoyingly hard to get off. Pours dark black with a fingernail, tan head that recedes moderately leaving minimal lacing. Smelling it is like smelling a bottle of bourbon with hints of chocolate. Taste is complex and layered. There are layers of bourbon, roasted coffee and semi-sweet chocolate, tart sourness and vinegar, and a finish of earthy hops. It is weird but definitely grows on you. It is a good weird. Medium body and medium-low carbonation. Everything works together to make a very palatable beer.
Very strange beer. Everytime I thought I had it figured out, a new layer unfolded. Definitely something I'll seek out again. It left me wanting another bottle.

An unbroken tan froth towers above this dark brown brew.
Has an aroma of ripened prunes, plums and grape, a handful of roasted nuts, and faint chocolate.
Totally unique flavor and just about what you would expect from a Sour/Porter. Lots of ripe and tangy dark fruitiness, a vein of chocolate and a slightly roasty finish. A hint of wood and earth way back.
Medium and a little thin for my tastes.
Approached this one with great care since my history with sours is hit or miss. Not being overly acidic or tart, I was happy to find this one was quite accessible. Not particularly a go-to brew, but fun for a change of pace.

Pours dark brown with a nice khaki head. Nose is an assertive sweet chocolate with hints of citrus. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, hi carbonated sour and definitely not what you expect based on the nose. Flavors are acidic very light chocolate and simple acid tart. Not bad, just not great. Grows on you a bit as it warms but actually a very simple "dark sour" beer where the looks are very deceiving, as is the nose. Simple fresh tart finish.
