BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Santa Fe Brewing Company
New Mexico, United States

Style: English Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale style originated in the pubs of England, where beer drinkers desired a beer that was both flavorful and complex, but at the same time mild enough to be a session beer. The Santa Fe Brewing Company's interpretation of this style uses a combination of high mash temperature, hard water, and low-alpha acid hops to produce a product that is both true to the style and distinctly Santa Fe. Brewing jargon aside, Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale is an easy-drinking beer, mild, smooth, and always a favorite.

A: upper quartile, but not top shelf. 4 flat

S: used frier oil and lard, damn.. 2

T: mineral water. Faint hint of those nuts though 2.75, hey, theres some terrible brews out there so yeah I'll give it a 2.75 so what

M: rich, full, kinda alcoholic but again, theres some terrible ales out there, son. 3.5

O: Hmmm, this is interesting. how about a 2.75: slightly under the average.

I enjoyed this beer more over the summer but my palate in changing.. for the better. Heck, I'd recommend this to someone if the other options were wither unknown or terrible. It's worth a drink i suppose :)

Pours a hazy dark reddish-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, earth, and nut aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, nut, and slight caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid toast and nut characteristics that I expect from the style.

Serving type: bottle.

Pours to a permanent head that laces well. Aroma is brown, crystal and chocolate malts with nutty, roasty notes. Flavor is more of the same with a nice balancing low-impact hop bitterness that is distinctly English. Dry, crisp, nutty finish. Mouthfeel is medium and CO2 is on the high side for style. Overall a pleasing Brown.

The body appears a brownish copper with lots of lively carbonation and a lasting, creamy, one-finger thick head. Dark malt sugar aroma; nuts; mildly charred grains. Fair dark malt flavors, much like the aroma; features a spicy hop bitterness; mildly phenolic. Medium body with a mostly dry finish.

A fair though unexciting brown ale. The flavors and mouthfeel appear on the weak side of things and lacks a certain 'oomph' as far as overall impact. The beer doesn't fail as far as coming across as a brown ale, just lacks depth and distinction.
