Perfection. Not sure how anybody can find fault with this masterpiece. This brewery is the finest in the land. Bought Happy Camper then the Imperial Stout and now I have discovered so many other brews in their arsenal.

Poured an opaque, jet-black color with a small, tan head of bubbly foam. It smelled of roasted malt, dark chocolate and pine. Nice bitter piney hops with chocolate and roastiness.

Black ale pours black with tan head 3/4" deep. Aroma is mostly black patent malt and C hops, although the dry hopping if any seems to be lacking.
Taste is prolly above average for a black ale. The hop quality is there, it doesn't do much flavor wise, its bitter but not excessively. The roast is there, but not up there in stout or porter levels. Its heavier and a different ale than a schwarzbier though.
I'm not a huge fan of the style, I think the peak time for these is spring or fall drinking. I will acknowledge it is better than your average black ale. Second tier stuff methinks.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a black color with an off white foamy head that dissipated at a mild pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had some grapefruit pith, roasted dark malts, subtle coffee beans, dark chocolate, driftwood, earthy hops, and a light dose of piney/resin bitter hops. The flavor mildly blended the prior noted aromas fairly nice. Long yet sharp and roasty aftertaste. Sly roasty finish. The palate was medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, pretty nice black IPA that I could come back to if I could get it. Thanks Jason!

My first black IPA
Looks like a dark cola. Head is light brown.
Smell's a little toasty. Some subdued pine smell. Subtle.
Taste is very interesting. Still clearly a IPA, and a resinous one at that, but there are some subtle notes of coffee.
Feels nice and hearty. Meaty, full-bodied.
Definitely an interesting beer. Give it a try if you enjoy IPA and stouts/porters.

It mostly tastes like an average IPA but it does have a hint of the dark roasted malts taste of stouts and darker beers, It makes for a good mix of the two styles.

Great beer, awesome flavor and aroma. They use some great hops in this one, Simcoe and other big hitters.

12oz can poured into a pint glass. no freshness dating that i could find.
looks very good. appears to be a black bodied beer, but shows amber/red wine color up to the light. good tan head, with great lacing.
nothing at all on the nose. nothing good, nothing bad.
tastes of heavily roasted malt, somewhat bitter. muted hops. a touch of sweetness.
close to full on the mouth.
Overall, this one is a bit all over the place, ratings wise. this is not a style i overly care for, highly roasted malt and hop sometimes comes off way too bitter. but this one is decent. no idea of the age on this.
