Pours opaque dark brown in color with minimal head. Taste is bakers chocolate, roasted malt, and sea salt. Medium bodied and carbonation, sweet and roasty. The salt adds an interesting element to a quality stout. Good but I prefer others from the brewery.

Purchased @ Marshall Wharf brewery, Belfast ME

This one pours a deep shade of brown bordering black with a faint ruby edge when held up to the light. A nice two fingered creamy lite tan head climbs to the rim and hangs on with a fair amount of retention. A curtain of lacing mixed with polka dots stick to the walls of the glass which compliments the appearance.

The aroma is soft and sweet with chocolate, molasses, coffee and a noticeable roastiness.

Flavor begins bitter sweet with chocolate followed by a lingering taste of coffee, roasted malt and earthy hops. I can detect a faint sandy/mineral aftertaste which must be related to the 10 live oysters this beer was brewed with.

The mouthfeel starts out clean and smooth over a medium body. Carbonation along with bitterness are both faint, however a definite dryness is noticeable after several glasses.

Overall an interesting example and quite enjoyable. Never in my wildest imagination would I ever have thought of beers brewed with oysters. Never the less, a real easy drinking sessionable stout.

16 oz can poured into wine glass no canned on date

A: nice black body with a chunky fat head that is slightly off white but disappears rather quickly

S: nice roasted malts smell, some licorice, bakers chocolate and light bits of stale coffee

T: nice lighter on the tongue rich burnt malts good bit of that bakers chocolate and a little bit of a saltiness on the finish

M: medium to leaning toward full beer isn't thick or cloying it actually is a pretty clean beer which is odd for a stout

O: Super easy drinking beer well put together stout and on the lighter side as well. I'd pick this up again.

From my notes of the Pemaquid Oyster festival at the brewery from last year.

Pours a pitch black color, touch of head.

Nose is darker malts, light roast and coffee, caramel and toffee, hint of chocolate, fluffy dark malts and a hint of a briny salty earthy touch.

Taste has some more dark malts, little roast and coffee, chocolate, caramel, toffee, oats, etc... then an interesting briny taste, salty and very earthy almost mushroomy, as well as a bit of earthy hops. Finish continues a bit of the briny slight sea like taste, and some of the lingering roast chocolate and coffee.

Mouth is med to fuller bodied, semi rich and creamy, decent carb.

Overall OK, nice malts but briny flavors are strange and don't meld well with the nice malts.

Poured on nitro-tap at Three Tides, and served in a pint glass. The beer pours jet black, with a thin, milk chocolate colored, filmy head. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, salt-water, and seafood. Flavors are initially heavy, dark roasted coffee, with a smooth chocolate undertone, and flavors end with briney and salt-water oyster flavors. Not overpowering, but unmistakably oyster, so if you aren't a fan, consider yourself forewarned. The aftertaste is roasted and smokey, again with seafood characteristics at the end. The brew is creamy and smooth, and very tasty overall. I am a big fan of this beer.

Picked up a growler at Marshall Wharf, as well as an Old No. 58, which is on deck! I also grabbed a pint at McKay's Public House in Bar Harbor last week, but didn't have time to review then.

Poured into a Sebago Brewing Co. Tulip Glass.

Dark black. Made my tulip glass look like a Magic 8 Ball. Will I enjoy this beer? All signs point to yes! Doesn't foam up like crazy out of the growler, even with a very vigorous pour. One finger of foamy off white to tan head. No lacing, settles to a whisp, very elegant looking. You get a whiff of bitter chocolate and coffee, but it mainly smells like the ocean. Briney smooth mouthfeel. You can lick the sea salt off your lips. Great carbonation, and mineral mouthfeel. Little chocolate, little coffee, little smoke. This is one of the few Oyster Stouts (so I was told) that are actually brewed with Oysters! A dozen fresh Pemaquids made their way into the batch, and the briny, mineral taste they impart is terrific.

I haven't had very many Oyster Stouts, but this is amazing. Mineral Water meets Ice Coffee. Very refreshing, and I wish I had a dozen Pemaquids on the half shell to pair this delicious beer with.
