Notes: Pugachev’s Cobra aged for 8 months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels to create a dense, complex beverage. We added maraschino cherries to top off this already layered Russian Imperial Stout. All the richness of our prominent Pugachev’s Cobra, combined with the sweet decadence of maraschino cherries.

12oz bottle, red wax from 2015. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark brown body, nearly black, one finger offwhite head, fair bit of retention, not much lacing. Lots of legs on this one, not unexpected from a cousin of Pugachev Royale. Smells of rich nutty bourbon, brown sugar, milk chocolate and a touch of cherry. The cherry is certainly subdued here. It smells good, but in relation to Royale, this is like a neutered version of it. I suspect that the Brandy barrel component adds a lot more to what makes Royale Royale; which is missing here and the cherry doesn't seem to be able to fill that void. Flavour is rich nutty milk chocolate and bourbon, a bit of smoke and cocoa, the cherries are muted as well. They're there, but don't really contribute a whole lot. Mouthfeel is full bodied, thick and fairly dry; smooth booziness on the backend. Overall, not a variant that really hit the home run, and not necessarily an improvement on Royale.

humongous thanks to mark for sharing this. I am a huge fan of the pugachevs. cobra with cherries....cherries are there but seem to thin things out a bit. really great.

A - Poured pitch black with next to no head aside from a few bubbles that eventually formed a thin medium brown ring around the edges of the glass.

S - Not a huge cherry nose at all. Starts with bourbon, roast and chocolate and, after searching it out, a slight bit of tart cherry aroma shows up in the background.

T - Big barrel notes up front ~ bourbon, vanilla and charred oak. Sweet maple syrup mid-palate. The cherry is a secondary flavour, as the nose indicated, showing in in the finish with a slight tartness and jamminess. The cherry lingers in the finish.

M - Full body. Creamy and smooth. Light carbonation.

O - Another amazing Puga variant. Would like a little more cherry, but this is still amazing in its own right.
