Dated December 2015. 13.5% ABV. Consumed 2/5/16

Very dark brown color and an aggressive pour yielded a very small off white tan head. No lacing along the glass edges. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, malts, and coffee. Smooth bourbon, dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate, oak, and vanilla make up the flavors. Medium to full feel with the alcohol burn present on the back of the throat. Overall, a finely crafted bourbon barreled stout that should be sipped and savored! Enjoy.

2013 bottling, aged for 2+ years and opened today because snowed in, so why not? Poured into Guinness Stout Glass at about 50 degrees (first pour).

L: Very dark, with one finger tan head that expectedly gets knocked down quickly by the ABV. Only leaves a thin ring.

S: Coffee, unsweetened chocolate, vanilla, maple, dark fruits. A bit of alcohol, but not overmuch. Really nice.

T: OH YEAH. Taste follows nose, and all subtle but interplay nicely. Coffee and the other flavors up front, some alcohol heat, but not too much, and the barrel wood lingers. Aging it totally worth the wait.

F: Full bodied, moderate carbonation, alcohol heat controlled very well. Very good balance.

O: I am a happy man. Wish I'd thought to buy more than one and wish I'd bought ensuing years rather than treat this as a one-off in 2013.

Whoooo. This one drinks hot and boozy. Clocking in at 13.5% is no joke, but the maple really does a nice job of keeping that alcohol at bay. I loved the beer and thought the complexity of flavors was great.

2015 bottle (I haven't tried previous years vintages). 13.5% abv. Pours ink black with a mocha 1/2 inch head. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, maple, bourbon, currants, dark fruit. Very rich. Taste is similar with the bourbon and maple being the dominant flavors. More subtly are roasted malts, oak, and coffee. Sweetness is there, but not overpowering or cloying. Feel is slick and oily. Coats the tongue nicely. Alcohol is hidden well. Overall, a very well done maple BBA stout that offers good complexity.

2015 version (13.5% abv) into a Teku at cellar temp.

Look: neither the thinnest nor the darkest BA RIS around; essentially no head.

Smell: coffee, mild bourbon, mild chocolate, maple syrup.

Taste: raw bourbon up front, followed by massive roast, and honestly not much else. Not getting very much depth or complexity. A little bit of interesting plum/concord grape asserts as it warms, but it's just dominated by the bourbon/roast flavors.

Feel: fairly thin, with some alcohol heat.

Overall: I've been looking (lazily) for PC for years, and I'm definitely glad I didn't try harder. This is a middle-of-the-road BA RIS. I'm hoping a year or two in the cellar will give the flavor a chance to balance out a bit.

Lots of toffee on the palate at first with a bit of walnut and caramel. Light barrel flavors of coconut and vanilla as it finishes with maple and molasses.
