2014 vintage. 750ml corked and caged bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a super viscous pitch black that leaves just a thin, dark mocha ring along the side of the glass. Thick, oily legs that really cling to the glass with very spotty lace that doesn't stick around. Average.

Nose is molasses, sweet dark fruit, chocolate, mocha, syrup and booze. Solid. Really aromatic.

Opens rich molasses, chocolate, sweet soy sauce, cocoa powder and a whole lot of booze. Sweet and syrupy in the middle with some plum, tobacco and leather added. A touch of oak makes it out of the hot abyss towards the end. Boozy on the finish that leaves a film of molasses, oak and tobacco on the palate. Very good. Incredibly intense.

Full bodied with low carbonation. Thick, chewy and rich in the mouth and goes down hot and viscous. Finishes dense and hot with a lingering, boozy aftertaste. A huge, huge beer.

I don't know if a beer can be "too" big but this definitely comes close. Super thick, chewy and boozy but with enough flavor to carry the day. As is, this could use just a little bit more time but its already very very good.

Huge bourbon and chocolate aroma, tar, licorice, and moderate smoke character.

Flavor is very rich, bourbony, sweet, with dark fruit and lots of alcohol.

Enjoyed at a share.

This is the perfect beer to share. Pitch black, a little thin for the style with a poorly developed head. The nose is amazing, notes of dark coco, bourbon soaked oak, and vanilla. I do get a little bit of the maple, which comes through on the taste. The taste is very powerful, with dark chocolate, bourbon, bourbon soaked oak, vanilla, and a hoppy/coffee bite at the end. Low carbonation, perfect for this beer, a little thin, and huge body.

Well this is a beast, thread lightly. The abv is hidden to a certain extent but it defiantly a sipper.

Reviewing the 2014 bottle which I found to be superior to 2013. Pours dark, but not super viscous. Not necessarily surprising for the abv and dryness; without a lot of residual sugar remaining to thicken it up, it's in the mid-range of massive stouts. Nose and flavor are gigantic - maple, turbinado sugar, toffee, fudge, oak, vanilla, french roast coffee, hints of holiday spice (clove, cinnamon). A bit of heat, but mostly just rich bourbon soup in which all the other flavors ebb and flow. Finish feels a bit thin, slick but the flavors linger on forever.

thanks a lot to Brandon for sharing this 750ml, enjoyed chilled in a glass and allowed to rise in temperature gradually.

The color is black with opaque clarity and thin tan head. The smell is very roasty almost burnt acrid with slight chewy sweet brownie batter-like aroma. The feel is rich intense and highly roasted with a dry quality with a lot of alcohol and woody tannin in the feel.

The flavor is good at first but improves as it warms with roasty and rich woody flavor with light sweetness and mild cocoa with dark fruit and earthy quality with some woody flavor continuing mid palate into a mild alcohol flavor as it finishes warm and dry. Overall I consider this a great stout -it tastes way better near cellar temp after some of the alcohol settles -a great Imperial stout even though it is 16% Thanks a lot Brandon!

Very sweet maple stout. The maple is there in both the nose and the taste, very much masking the barrel aging. But the barrel makes itself known on the fairly smooth, thick finish. Unfortunately the maple becomes somewhat artificial on the finish, tarnishing an otherwise very good stout.

2014 bottle from trade. Pours pitch black without much head. Aroma is strong alcohol, roast, marshmallow, vanilla, bourbon, more alcohol. Didn't realize this was 18.9% until I opened it. Whoops. Flavors are all there witih the bourbon and vanilla and chocolate and roast you'd expect from the style, but the booze just makes it too much. What's the point of making it this boozy? Detracts from what seems to otherwise be a quality brew.
