Huge thanks to Sam (NoSignsOfPain) for busting this one out last night at the Jingle Bell Jubilee.

Bottle # 3266/3495.

Pours an opaque black with a 1/2 inch khaki head that fades to nothing. Small dots of lace cling to the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, wood, and bourbon. The alcohol smell on this one is potent and validates the 16.5% ABV. Taste is the same as the smell with the bourbon being quite strong and warming the back of the throat. This beer has a nice carbonation level with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good RIS that I am very glad I was able to try. Yes, the bourbon is in your face and could stand to have some aging but I still loved this one right out of the gate.

Tasted at the Hangar 24 Release, 12/10/11

A: This beer has a deep mahogany blackness with a great coating that clings to the edge of the glass with a khaki sheeting. Mild 1/2" head with mocha bubbles.

S: There's a nice toffee and oak to the nose, a deep caramel bourbon smell that isn't too hot or boozy, it reminds me of a milder Black Tuesday with more chocolate dryness.

T: There's a huge chocolate front to it, with a nice bakers cocoa dryness to the finish with a warm oakiness to the finish. Very fulfilling and maintains a sustained chocolate/vanilla finish.

M: This has a dry oaky finish that balances the sweetness of the chocolate amiably.

D: This has a big heat to it but is balanced nicely, I went back for 3 pours so, I can't really complain about its repeat value. The abv will likely integrate nicely over time but even fresh it is incredibly drinkable. This is not as firey as BT or fresh darklord and I can imagine this only getting better if laid down for time.

Thanks to NoSignsOfPain

Look: Pours black with a 1/8 inch head and ok retention

Smell. Lots of bourbon forward with some notes of chocolate

Taste. The beer starts off incredibly bourbony with lots of alcohol then has traces of oak and vanilla. The beer finishes with a very nice chocolate note

Mouthfeel. Full body and low carbonation

Overall. This beer needs some time to develop as of right now it is a bit of a boozy mess

pours black with a small khaki head, medium retention and spotty lacing around the glass.

s-black licorice, dark fruity malts, maple, chocolate, hint of vanilla.

taste was nice. it still hot from the bourbon due to it being so fresh and at 16.5%, chocolate, mild maple, dark fruit malts, pretty well balanced

m-smooth/creamy mildly viscous

overall i thought it was a very nice beer and am looking forward to aging it for awhile and see how the flavors blend.
