Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Karl Strauss pint glass
From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $8.99
Purchased: June 21, 2015
Consumed: June 24, 2015
Misc.: N/A

Poured 1-to-2 fingers of brown, mahogany, murky color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki tan, rocky head.
Could see light bubbles on the top, but that’s it. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Minimal retention on the top. (Sight - 3.25)

Smelled boozy dark berries - raspberry, blackberry, boysenberry - plums, purple (red) grapes, oak, light white wine, apple cider, cherry and some red wine notes. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted at least as good as the nose. Really like this. Getting dark berries as in raspberries, boysenberries and cherries. Also toasty malts, plums, slightly sour purple (red) grapes, brown sugar, apple cherry cider and vanilla oak. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)

I really liked this beer. Would love to have it again. (Overall - 4.00)

L: Pours a dark amber color with a thin cream colored head. Good carbonation, decent lace. Tulip glass provides best look.

S: Fruity, spicy. Those are the two things that stand out the most. It has a nice aroma of raisin and spice to it, somewhat reminiscent to a glass of white wine but not as boozy.

T: Very nice. Very pleasant. It is an old ale through and through with the complexity. However, it is more simple than your average barleywine/old ale. It features the sour grape flavor quite prominently, while also featuring a vanilla and oaky flavor from the barrels. Subtle, but overall good.

F: Nice crisp feel to it. Good carbonation, light, and airy. The alcohol can be felt a little but it is not overpowering.

O: I thought it was an excellent special release. I like that they feature local field and local flavors. Grapes are prominent in the California agriculture, and it is cool to see them collaborate in this way. As far as it being a solid old ale, it's a good effort. Maybe not the most exceptional of old ales, but definitely an enjoyable brew with a local twist.

Raisiny colored in the glass with thin foam.
What an aroma. Red wine? Grapes and a hint of vanilla, with some oak on it.
The flavor is delicately sweet. Caramel and vanilla meets a sweet red wine, with a sweet malty finish. Perhaps my favorite of the Hanger 24 beers I’ve tried so far.

Just doesn't deliver at all. Just tastes like an old ale. I aged one for two years, wasn't hot like i've heard but had no flavor.
