2013 vintage 12.4% ABV bottle #3604 of 3905

The cork was brittle and broke when I tried to worry it out, had to use a corkscrew. Unsurprisingly the beer pours flat, so the body is a bit watery. Up front there is a big caramel note and subtle chocolate. I get some brown liquor soon after that builds towards the finish where it's met by a sharp, woody bite. I wouldn't recommend seeking this out necessarily, but if you have one squirreled away it's drinking pretty nice right now.

Cellared bottle. Semi-opaque brown body, no head save a tan ring. Getting rye whiskey and general booze, dark oak, raisin, and snarling barley for the smell. Taste is musty with bitter barley, hints of sawdust that really detract from the taste, raisin and prune are dry and short lived, booze just isn't that impactful on the palate, oak is big though. All together it is out of balance, giving a strong impression of woody barley. Feel is dry, decently boozy, sharp and robust yet thinner. Disappointing

2014 edition, back when it was still called Hammerhead

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep brown with some slight red highlights which is topped by a finger of dense light tan head which is slightly rocky and fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of sticky caramel, aged hops, oak, and a little vanilla.
T: Taste is a pretty strong caramel note with some slight fruitiness, aged hops come in to provide a little bitterness but they don't pack a lot of punch, there's a nice drying oak note with a touch of vanilla along with some strong spice notes, hints of toasted malts and just a touch of some dark fruits. On the swallow this beer is more aged hop character with even more caramel, oak, light spice, toasted malts and a touch of vanilla.
M: This beer is fairly full bodied and slightly chewy. Carbonation is slightly effervescent but not overpowering while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really well executed beer. It has great flavors and a really nice amount of complexity. The mix of bourbon and rye barrels is somewhat apparent from the spice notes that come in. This beer also aged amazingly well and also doesn't show any signs of oxidation outside of the hops fading. Worth a try if you can find it.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large foamy head. Aroma of deep caramelized malt notes with some bourbon and vanilla notes. Taste is a mix of deep caramelized malt notes with some bourbon notes and some light woody notes and some residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Solid barleywine with some extreme flavours.

A - Pours a dark burgundy chestnut brown color with nice clarity and thick, velvety creamy lacing, lots of legs on the sides of the glass.

S - Bourbon, rye, spice, delicate oak, boozy.

T - Toasted caramel malt, bourbon, spicy rye, oak, and incredibly boozy.

M - Big and silky with a medium body.

O - I like 'em big and boozy, the alcohol is too overpowering.

A nice "refined" barleywine.
A dark amber color with a tiny head.
Aroma of caramel, booze, and oak.
Toffee taste, whiskey, and vanilla.
Not aggressively hopped. A smooth-drinking sipper.
