On tap at Hangar 24 Brewery in Redlands, CA.

Billed as a Belgian-Style Golden Ale aged in bourbon barrels.

This is not only the 6th in the Barrel Roll series, but also this year's 5th anniversary ale.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, fruit, vanilla, caramel, toffee, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, caramel, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a fantastic smell and some tasty flavors.

Served in a footed glass at Ale Arsenal.

Hazy, honey brown. No head.

Huge esters. Honey. Grain. Belgian golden yeast. Crushed flower petals. Booze. There is a lot going on here.

It's delicious. It leans towards too sweet, but is balanced out by spicy yeast and a touch of carbonation. Apple juice (white grape juice?) is lightly tart and shot through with bourbon(!) which excites me. The aftertaste is dry and spicy, full of Belgian yeast and a touch of harshness (from the alcohol? the yeast strain? I'm unsure.)

A complicated beer that doesn't overreach itself. The bourbon is noticeable and improves it. The Belgian nature is obvious and well done. Would have again.
