As a Georgia Tech student, Cypress has been as important a part of my college experience as college football or the library. The combination of great pub food and an excellent beer selection really can't be beat, particularly within walking distance to campus. The three dollar house IPA pints and happy hour priced appetizers means I can get 32oz of beer and a plate of pub fries for about ten dollars - a steal for the financially constrained. Only complaint is that it can be difficult to get a spot for a large group during busy times.

Reviewed from notes taken during a visit to Atlanta for meetings about a year ago.

Food was fine.

Atmostphere comfortable but a bit loud.

Service was timely and attentive.

Beer sellection had a nice variety and some quite good offerings I'd not had a chance to try before.

This place is just a few blocks from my apartment, so the walking distance is great in case I have one or two or three or four too many.

Atmosphere: Not too bad, a little "cold" in terms of welcoming environment, but the trick is done. It's got a lot of outdoor seating and a bar that's plenty big on the inside with a separate dining room.

Quality: Not too shabby -- they've got a decent tap list with none of the BMCs (at least when I was there) and what looked to be plenty of high end liquor (decent selection of Bourbons at least).

Service: Bar tender was cool. She took the time to look at my license (always a plus when you're in your late 30s...) and also to ask if I go by the name on it or if I prefer something else. She then referred to me by my preferred name for the rest of my time there. She wasn't overly pushy either and constantly trying to fill up my glass -- kind of left me to my own devices which is something I appreciate.

Selection: They had about 16 taps, mostly local stuff with a couple of imports (Delirium Tremens was on, but at 11 bucks a glass, I wasn't interested...).

Food: Not a huge menu, mostly pub/bar food, but the burger I had was great and the fries were hand cut and pretty tasty. A woman down the bar from me got the fish and chips and the plate came out with a huge portion, so if I go back that may be the way I go. Not amazing, but definitely better than a Red Robin or other chain family-style restaurant.

Value: A little pricy I would say, but not too bad once in a while. The beer was probably a little overpriced (seven bucks for a Sweetwater?), but the place was very clean, well staffed and well kept. I will likely go back, if for nothing else than because it's very close.

A colleague (a fellow BA) and I hit up this place on our first night on a three-day busines trip. It was a little hard to find because it's listed to be on W. Peachtree but it's actually on a side street. But once we found it, we were happy we did.

It's a pretty nice place with a 3/4 bar in the center of the room and a pretty large outdoor patio. We found two seats without a problem at the bar --- probably because it was Sunday night. The bartender took our orders right away and seemed excited to have a couple of BAs sit down because he wanted to talk with us all night about different beers and beer styles. Without us asking once, he kept bring us tasters of nearly every tap and giving us his two cents about what he liked and didn't like about each one and was interested in what we thought. I think his name was Nick.

They probably had a dozen or so taps of really good craft beer with a variety of styles served in correct glassware.

I would definitely return next time I'm in Atlanta.

Went here after we found the original place we were going to, the graveyard, dead.

There were a bunch of cops parked in the terrace and patio of this place, but there was nothing going on inside.

It is a loud, sports barish type place, though the tvs really sucked and the music was generic rock.

The taplist and beer list are decent though. I got Red Brick 16th anniversary on tap and it was among a few other really nice selections.

The service was very friendly and prompt.

It is a nice bar, but I would just stick to the Porter or Brickstore.

I've been here several times, with visits ranging from lunchtime to Friday night.

The place is hidden on a side street between, just off the midtown mile. Decent sized U-shape bar, with some dining room seating also available. The bar and restaurant inside is pretty bland, but the outdoor patio is the place to be on warm evenings. Being a smaller space, it gets pretty busy in the evening.

There are about a dozen or so taps, and you can almost always find something 'interesting' - sometimes its something cool from Founders (CBS, Nemesis, etc), or Bell's Hopslam, and of course all the one-offs from the local guys. A die-hard BA may not always find something new to them, but will always find something to drink. Selection is usually well-varied and with a modest amount of taps, the turnover is good.

Food and service are both above average - pricing is pretty reasonable, small 11oz snifters of some of the rarer stuff will usually only set you back $5 or $6, compared to $7-9 up the street at Taco Mac.

I like the place - a nice little pub that always has some great beer and reliable food.

So I came here for the Port/Lost Abbey night, but I've been here quite a few times. The outdoor area is nice, but the inside is a bit dull and uninteresting.

Beer was served in semi-appropriate glassware at correct temperatures.

The servers know very little about beer, and even less about the brewer that was visiting during this night. I was quite unimpressed. However, they were friendly.

The selection on this night was decent, but this was a special occasion. The selection overall is usually pretty standard with maybe one or two interesting selections at best. I've never been impressed in the least bit.

The food is actually quite decent. They have happy hour food specials, which is nice, and the burger I had was quite good. The meatball sliders are very good.

Overall, this place seems to want to be a beer bar, but just doesn't have the selection, service, and setup to be up to par. There are at least half a dozen places in Atlanta I'd rather go.

One of my favorite dinner locations. Easy walking distance to Georgia Tech campus and Midtown MARTA station.

Atmosphere is out of this world, especially the patio at night.
Food is absolutely delicious, there's nothing on the menu I wouldn't recommend.
Servers are friendly, helpful, and fairly knowledgeable.
Beer selection consists of a small number of old standbys and a small number of rotating beers. Almost always something new and delicious to drink there.

My only complaint is that its a little bit too dear for me to go there regularly, but its worth it.

I've been to Cypress Street a few times. It's a midtown neighborhood joint with beer that is just a slight notch above average. Nothing really spectacular on tap, but they usually have one or two standouts, and actually usually serve them in proper glassware.
(*EDIT: Cypress St has an increasingly better beer selection, including some special kegs and casks on a frequent basis)

The atmosphere is a bit of a mish-mash, but it works. At first it seems slightly upscale, but then there's an arcade game and board games. There's a nice bustling outdoor area. Easy walk from MARTA midtown station is a huge plus.

Service can be spotty.

*EDIT #2: I've been to Cypress quite a few times over the past couple of years. It started out good and seems to be steadily improving. Service is up, the beer selection is better than ever (stop by for "Beer Geek Tuesdays"), the food is consistently good, and happy hour is a deal. This is now my go-to spot in Midtown.

Finally found this place after aimless wandering around W. Peachtree. It's basically on the block occupied by the Biltmore at the corner of Cypress and 6th.

Atmosphere is good. Lots of outdoor seating with a giant TV in one corner and a giant fireplace in another. The bar inside is pretty big, and they have Ms. Pacman with the old-school joystick as well as Connect Four (I lost in both). There's a chalkboard on the street side of the bar with the current offerings as the menu is pretty out of date.

Quality is good. I only ordered one beer that was served in an unmarked, room temperature pint glass. My friend got a bit of an underpour but mine was just right. Lucky me.

Service was good. There weren't many people there so we got served pretty quickly. We eventually made our way inside to the bar where the bartender chatted with us for a while and set up the Ms. Pacman.

Selection was solid. Wes has been making a concerted effort to get more micros in the place, but the selection still isn't as good as it hopefully will be. Lots of standard macro taps with Big Hoppy Monster and Guinness I believe. They were out of Ayinger Oktoberfest and Aventinus, but they were supposed to get a keg of SN Celebration in that day. They also had Gamma Ray in bottles.

The beer was a bit pricey, $6.50 for a Big Hoppy Monster, but not overly so.

Overall this is a pretty good new place to grab a beer if you're in the area. The Vortex is nearby, but judging by the place's future beer plans there will probably be a few on-tap selections that make it worth a stop.

I stopped in yesterday again hoping to meet Wes (a manager who posts on BA), but unfortunately he wasn't there, guess I'll have to go back.

The patio is cheerful, usually filled with a good looking, laid back Midtown crowd. Not a bad place to spend an evening, although the furniture isn't the most comfortable. I enjoyed the big screen HD TV on the patio as well, but the sound was quiet and it didn't feel like a sports bar, thank goodness.

They're working on improving and rotating their beers on tap, which is good. Not many bars in Midtown with Chimay on tap. Very happy to see the Sweetwater IPA instead of 420. My DFH 90 was served in a DFH glass, which is nice. Currently they're doing an 8 week series of revolving Oktoberfest kegs, which is right up my alley.

Our server wasn't good, unfortunately. He didn't really know about the Oktoberfest keg, I had to convince him he really had Paulaner on tap. He also tried to pick up the check not only before we'd left (pet peeve of mine), but before I'd even signed the receipt. And we weren't exactly lingering, there were open tables. I have a feeling this was an isolated incident, and won't hold it against the place unless it happens again.

I think the prices are a little high for beer ($7.50 for my 90 minute IPA, $6 for my Paulaner), but whatever. I'll give them kudos for their $3 "Cypress Ale" which is Flying Dog Pale Ale, not Naddy like most places. If you're in Midtown, it's worth stopping by.

What a great place. Cypress Street Pint and Place is located right in the heart of Midtown. They have a pretty solid selection including Chimay Cinq Centes on draft and Duvel and Three Philosophers in bottles. My wife and I walked there, found a table on the huge patio, and were greeted by our server who let us know that appetizers were half off as it was happy hour (5-7pm every day). We had a pound of wings which were delicious especially for $4. After an appetizer, two beers, two dinners, and 20% tip, we left spending only $30! This is definitely worth a stop if you are in Midtown. If you are going to the Fox this would make a great before or after destination also.

The Cypress Street Pint & Plate is tucked in behind the Biltmore Hotel on West Peachtree Street, so it can be a pain in the rear to find - but it is worth seeking out. The bar area is cozy and intimate, and there are some booths and tables around as well. Beer selection is not huge, but they offer mainly locals, micros and imports. Serving people are very nice and accommodating. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Happily, this bar is located right between two MARTA stations (Midtown and North Avenue), so you can use the stripy trains as your designated driver.
