Marauder is not your ordinary scotch style ale. Consisting of a larger than life grain bill and a long kettle caramelization process, this dark liquid is full of rich flavors of malted barley and caramel. If that wasn’t enough, this beer has been aged in oak bourbon barrels for 3 months to round out the complexity of this brew. At 10% alcohol, Marauder will leave you scavenging the island for this buried treasure!

A beautiful mahogany color with a a tan head that yields ever so slowly to atmosphere and gravity, this beer literally reeks of caramel and toffee aromas, with some vanilla and oak thrown in for good measure.

The toffee and caramel flavors are the alpha and omega on the taste - just a supremely balanced beer that shows no alcohol whatsoever, which is fairly incredible given the 11% ABV. Truly a pleasure to drink - I wish I had a keg of this.

Features Galena hops, Maris Otter and roasted barley malts; brewed in 2017, bottled in 2018, part of their Born from Wood reserve series... Pours dark brown, essentially opaque black in the glass; kicks up but a biref dark tan foam in the goblet from a center-pour... Not bad at all - solid take on the style - malts are fairly forward, with some dark brown bread and fruit cake elements; bourbon is lightly airy on the palate with pronounced barrel woods lending a nice drying quality to the beer; mild molasses-like sweetness over impressions of booze-soaked fruits with some darker citrus tang... Smooth and mild; little bit of resinous shellac lingers behind but airs out nicely... As I've been drinking it I've been regarding it as quite a nice entry to the style...

Pours dark mahogany color with a 1 finger tan head that faded slowly and left good spotty lacing.

Smells of bourbon, peat moss, toffee, maple syrup, brown sugar, tea leaf, malt and woody/oak notes. A malt bomb with nice boozy notes and enough bourbon to bring lots of barrel notes.

Tastes of caramel, peat moss, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, toasted grains, smoked wood, bourbon, malt, toffee, maple syrup and lots of malty complexities. Rich malt flavors combined with the bourbon make this a nice malty treat, and it's easier to drink than expected with the high ABV.

Served in a Tulip glass on tap here at the Republic, Farmingdale NY.

Appearance: Dark mahogany brown coming off almost opaque with medium bubbles to the body. Head was an off-white color maybe quarter an inch below my finger. Settles like nada after the first sip.

Smell: sugary notes. Like think of sweet molasses and vanilla with notes of rum. Little complex and can be pushed a little more.

Taste: Sweet vanilla, seriously with the after alcohol feel and did I forget to mention sweet. Comes offa little bit of toffee which kinda reminds you a bit of certain English barley wines.

Mouth: Medoum carbonation but ultra sticky, factoring how heavy it drops on your palates after you finish a glass you will thank me later or a day...depends who's asking.

Overall: Good brew, as a matter a fact maybes step above us food chain of what you will ever have. Best compared to quite a few wee heavy beers and very hard to contrast the bias. Salud.

16 oz bottle 2015 version purchased at the brewery last weekend

Pours near black, dark mocha head, leaves nice fine sheeting.

Just some moderate dark malts on the nose.

Loads of rich maple malts, caramel, vanilla and some light bourbon all picked up. Alcohol on the over present side, making this one officially "hot'...maybe some more time in the bottle might help this bash...moderately impressed but no home run here
