Pours an oily, night black color with a fluffy mohagony colored head, slowly fading to a ring of lacing at the rim of the glass.
The nose of this is bursting of roasted coffee and vanilla milk chocolate, enriched by the oaken, spicy barrel. These go very well together, creating an intriguing complexity which reminds me of a slightly boozy Schwarzwälder-Kirschtorte, with only nuances of sugared cherries cutting through the profound, roasty maltiness.
Drinks silk and smooth, with an oily thickness, which reveals its huge body even better than the light alcohol bite during the finish.
Tart cherries define the beer‘s taste from first glance, which, at the beginning is a little startling, since it is so unusual for a stout to offer a nice tartness up front. This blends well into rock sugar and caramel, establishing the stout‘s more expectable sweetness, and just to make sure everything is under control here, the cherries then get dipped into melted bitter chocolate, revealing a coffee bean roastiness. The coffee gets a pleasant red berry tartness from the cherries, which works astonishing well with the coffee‘s roast quality, soothed by a calming vanilla note, adding a wooden sweetness. The bourbon barrel adds a little heat and a chewy spiciniess, which in no way pushes the beer too far, but instead enriches the already existing flavor complexity, resulting from the adjuncts. Finishes tart, sweet, roasty with a huge load of chocolate, which makes everything blending together, with a late barrel dryness, partly enhanced by the coffee bitterness, partly by the cherry tartness.
A wild ride on the tongue - this is intense and mind blowingly well balanced. I expected an adjunct onslaught, battering against my palate uncomromising, boy was I wrong. This works great, everything seems to fall into place playfully, creating a decadent and both challenging and rewarding imperial stout, which, despite its abv, I can‘t stop sipping.

L: Rich onyx hues with a dark sandy head and moderate lacing
S: A bit of the barrel on the nose with dark chocolate, raspberries, and cherries
T: Layered profile of dark roast coffee, sweet vanilla, milk chocolate, and fruit
F: Medium body with ample carb
O: I enjoyed this one quite a bit more than the 3 Floyds version, although both are excellent porters. Decadent and full flavored - very tasty.

Look is fair. Not much head. Smells of the vanilla and base beer with slight barrel. On the sip you get a nice cherry burst. Slight coffee there and some good chocolate. Feel is to be as expected from a porter. Just slightly thinner than a stout. Overall an amazing beer. Great collaboration.
