Brewed by:
The Bruery
California, United States

Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Tripel Tonnellerie is a 100% barrel fermented version of a Belgian Abbey Tripel. The base beer carries a classically clean maltiness, balanced by a fruity aroma and a dry, spicy mouthfeel. Extended fermentation in oak barrels inoculated with wild yeast allowed the beer to develop the rustic, earthy tones of a classic countryside biere de garde resulting in a uniquely flavorful beer, suitable for beer and wine lovers alike.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Clear light golden body. Big big white head. Thick chunky collar.

Smell - Woody and yeasty. The yeastiness is the slightest bit funky. Doughy malts.

Taste - It's pretty interesting. Sweet pale malt. Estery. Lightly fruity. Woody, too. A little bitter in the back.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy. Well carbonated.

Overall - I thought this would be bad, but it's a decent beer.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy light golden- yellow color with a frothy generous white head that slowly faded. good looking Tripel.

Smell: Bready notes, mild fruity and mild funk notes dominate the nose.

Taste: The bready, fruity, and mild funk notes that were present in the nose come through in the taste. The beer has a Tripel/Saison Hybrid taste. The typical Tripel notes are there but there is a faint Saison taste profile also present. The finish is more Saison dry than a typical Tripel.

Mouth-feel: Fairly light-bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Light bodied for a Tripel.

Overall: A unique twist on a Tripel. To me the fermentation with wild yeast lend a Saison taste/feel to the beer. I like the way the Bruery puts their spin on traditional beer styles.
