This is our bourbon barrel-aged imperial brown ale, Mash, stretching to new levels. Mash & Coconut features nearly 400lbs. of toasted coconut per batch, which ratchets up the complex, native coconut character and complements the oaky and vanilla notes that are imparted to the beer as part of its extensive maturation in bourbon barrels.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter. 2017 vintage.
A: Pours a clear brown hue with backlighting producing a more ruby color. 1-2 inch light tan head with decent retention.
S: Soft crème brûlée, coconut, softly sweet bourbon, nutty caramel, oak, vanilla, and a hint of a vinous note. Very inviting aroma!
T: Soft crème brûlée with sweet bourbon hits first, quickly followed by coconut, oak, almond, soft caramel, vanilla, and hints of toffee and red wine. Follows aroma. Excellent for style!
M: Medium body. Layers of malt, coconut, and bourbon barrel sweetness completely cover up the potent 13% ABV. Dangerous! Comes across surprisingly light on the palate with layers of delicate sweetness.
D: This is a superbly crafted and aged beer! Wonderfully balanced and shockingly easy to drink. Seek it out!

Dark amber color with a barely thin head.
Rich aroma with notes of coconut, molasses, bourbon, oak and vanilla.
Sweet and malty flavor with notes of toasted coconut, cola, bourbon, oak, some booze, yeast, raisins, some cocoa and vanilla. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness and mild alcohol numbing effect.
Velvety medium to full body with mild carbonation. Alcohol of 13% abv is complimentary to the flavor.
This Imperial Brown Ale delivered the promised Bourbon and toasted coconut notes. A bit less sweet than the usual Bruery.

750ml bottle. 2017 Edition.
Clear, deep amber colored body. Two fingers of off white head quickly dissipate, leaving an active surface of bubbles. Leaves behind a few scattered rings and spots of lacing.
Aroma of oak, vanilla, and malt, with a whiff of coconut. Lots of bourbon barrel in the nose.
Taste is very barrel rich, with oak and vanilla sliding off the tongue. Left behind is the essence of coconut. A little sweet with toffee and caramel malt flavors. The aftertaste is the leftover bourbon barrel, touched with coconut.
Mouth feel is slick and a little thin. The beer does not coat the mouth and stay around too long.
Very pleasant barrel aged brown ale with some complexity.

Today is a great day! I managed my personal goals with a win I am celebrating. This beer has been hibernating in my cellar since 2016. The beer is 50 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The pour of the beer produced a two-fingered head. The light tan foamy head dissipated quickly. The head left no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 34, dark oil brown with mahogany hues. I was hoping for a firmer and longer-lasting head on this beer.

The initial aromas in the beer are coconut, roasted malts, burnt sugar, and earthiness. Nosing further in the glass, I smell bourbon, alcohol, molasses, raisins, oranges, wood, chocolate, leather, a hint of smoke, and malty sweetness.

The flavors in the beer are coconut, roasted malts, bready, burnt sugar, figs, earthiness, wood, chocolate, leather, a touch of smoke, raisins, oranges, fruity esters, phenols, and malty sweetness.

The mouthfeel of the beer is warming and chewy.

The body of the beer is full, low carbonation, and medium finish.

This barleywine is not cloyingly sweet and has a lot of character. Other barleywine that I have consumed was had a heavier malt body. I am torn here with this beer, I wanted that heavier malt body complex, yet I want the flavors of this beer. The coconut is there and does play well with other ingredients.. I did enjoy this beer.

Appearance - The beer poured a deep copper color with an off-white head. Carbonation was visible amid the darkness of the pour.

Smell - The nose has a definite toasted coconut and chocolate presence that worked well with the base beer.

Taste - The coconut worked well with the base beer. The sweetness of the coconut worked with the dry aspects of the barley to create a natural coconut taste that was not overly sweet. There was also a fairly strong chocolate presence, but not hint of the bourbon aging. The sweet turns turn dry in the finish which probably prevents the profile from being cloying.

Mouthfeel - The beer demonstrated staying power with a full body, that allowed the coconut and chocolate to cling to the sides of the mouth.

Overall - I love coconut beers. This worked well.

2016 vintage. Poured from a bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Nearly clear copper brown pour with a finger of fizzy white head. Looks great as the light hits the glass.

S: Rich and sweet. Caramel, brown sugar, coconut, toasted grains and candy sugar.

T.F: Just like it smells. Malty, rich, and sweet up front. Baked raisin and dark fruit... brown sugar, caramel, and toffee. Some earthy hops, vanilla, and oak. Toasted coconut comes in at the finish and in the aftertaste. Sticky on the tongue and medium to thick bodied. Low-ish carbonation... warming, and gets more complex as it comes up to room temp.

O: An outstanding winter dessert and a 'slow sipper' kind of brew. Flavorful and everything as advertised with the mix of the English Barleywine and coconut.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep brown beer topped by a dense and rocky finger of light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of brown sugar, coconut, and bourbon barrels with a little dark fruit
T: Taste is brown sugar, coconut, caramel, vanilla, and oak with some nice dark fruit undertones. The coconut is somewhat prominent but still allows the other flavors to come though at times. On the swallow there's more coconut, brown sugar, dark fruits, caramel, and vanilla with some lingering coconut and oak
M: This beer has a fairly full body that is fairly silky and slightly creamy. Carbonation is light but adequate for the style while the beer has a slightly drying finish due to the ABV.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer with some great flavors and complexity. This beer is very enjoyable to sip and savor. Flavors are balanced well and the alcohol is well hidden. Definitely worth a try if you like the style.
