Notes / Commercial Description:
L'deracola is a beer inspired by another favorite drink of ours that probably shouldn't be such a favorite... cola! To create this unique beer we had to dive through the overwhelming layer of saccharine that dominates the flavor of most colas and discover the subtle flavors that create the world's most popular soft drink. Around a dozen different spices were added to a dark malt base and it was finished off with a twist of lime for good measure. The resulting beer has all of the flavors of an ice cold cola, without the overwhelming sweetness. Delightfully refreshing on it's own, but also ideal for a modern take on a classic style cocktail.

I aged this for almost 3 years in the cellar waiting for the premiere of Super Troopers 2. It was a nostalgic moment, but I wouldn't recommend aging this

750ml into stemmed glass. Bottled 4/21/15.

A: The pour definitely looks like the color of cola with that characteristic caramel coloring. Head is dense, tan, and nice and fluffy with a good three fingers foaming up after the pour before fadeing into a very thin collar.
S: Smells strongly of a spice rack with nutmeg and clove being the most noticeable. The spices are dominating and do not necessarily scream cola.
T: Strange combination of spices mixed with dark and caramel malts. Flavors are similar to a craft cola or maybe rootbeer, but overall it's just a spice rack bomb. Nutmeg and clove are noticeable along with maybe some all spice. Tastes a bit woody as well or root-like, with a touch caramel and vanilla in the finish.
M: Medium-full body, cola-like carbonation but maybe a bit softer and denser. Bittersweet mouthfeel with a chalky finish.
O: Tastes like a stronger version of an Anchor Xmas beer. Very spice forward. Not something I could drink a lot of, and not very good overall.

A tough one to rate. I have to rate against intention. They did a remarkable job getting this to taste like cola. There's great skill in this. And yet it's not overly sweet, there's not the impression of artificial flavoring (a la Not Your Fathers Root Beer). That said, it's not a beer I would really want to drink a lot of. A wild and successful experiment that's fun for a share.

Had this one twice; didn't think much of it the first time, but really enjoyed it the second. I think I was judging it too much based on how close it was to actual soda the first time (it really isn't close...unless you mean flat soda), but the second time around I appreciated it for what it is.

The spices come through nicely and there's some hidden complexity that I missed the first time. Overall, I've found their "other drink series" (including horchata, cola, and a cocktail) to be underwhelming, but a fun experiment. Maybe they'll hit on a great one eventually.

750ml bottle poured into an Oversized wine glass

A- pours a deep brown color with a small fizzy off-white head that reduces to a ring around the glass

S- smells just like cola, with additions of sassafras and lime, pretty impressive

T- herbal & spicy up front, mid palate brings flavors of cola & sassafras root, the finish gives a longer of lime juice and more cola

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and finish

O- this one loved up to the label, smells and tastes like cola with a hint of lime

2015 vintage

L - Pours a cola colored body with a one finger tan head. Definitely has the look and consistency of cola.

S - Pretty much nails it. Straight cola smell with not much else going on.

T - It has the underlying taste of coke and lime. The lime is just a came and went, not tart or sour by any means. It has a strange herbal bitterness that goes from beginning to end.

F - Light bodied and high carbonation. Effervescent with a dry ending.

O - Overall, an interesting beer that pretty much nails what it's going for. Guess people are judging based on taste rather than the beer trying to achieve what's on the label.

L: coke

S: flat coke

T: flat coke with lime

F: slight carbonation with a disgusting lingering aftertaste.

O: might be the worst beer I have ever had. Not for me at all. Drain pour. And I NEVER drain pour anything. I'm a Bruery fan but this sucks.

750ml bottled poured into a pair of snifters. The brew appears a dark cola brown color with a creamy khaki head.

This smells exactly like coke. Honestly, ive had alot of beers that were designed to mimic something else and this just nails it. Im strangely impressed by how much this smells like soda.

This tastes like a more bitter, earthy herbal strange rootbeer but with a slight tang in the finish like ginger/lemon. (After reading the description after drinking it...duh, it was lime.)

This is light in body with moderate carbonation. I gotta hand it to the Bruery, they definitely nailed the cola aspect in the nose and taste was close. But lets be honest, if someone wants a cola, they are not reaching for this instead. Cut the horseshit with these mocktails and things designed to taste like anything but beer and get to work on making the beers we all have come to love/want more of.

A: poured into a pint glass to a deep brown with a finger of dense off white head that fades quickly and leaves some lacing
S: smells like a diet coke and lime with some sugary sweetness. It smells like they hit the mark
T: taste is like a cola with some lime. faint roasted malt is battled back by a bit of lime flavor and more cola. Swallow is still more lime and cola. The bitterness is kind of offputting and it's kind of herbal. It really does taste like cola with lime
M: Fairly light on the palate with cola like effervescent carbonation. Swallow is quite refreshing
O: I can see why a lot of people don't like this. As a brown ale it fails horrendously but as a beer that tastes like cola it hits the marks. With an open mind I kinda dig it but if I wanted to drink an alcoholic cola loaded with calories I'd rather put some rum or whiskey into a regular cola...

Split with rudzud

Fizzy head like a soda, almost no lacing, super dark color no real light.

Nose is interesting, weird earthy root sasafrass like spices, a fruity berry thing, mild vanilla and oaky, sweet syrupy thing, no malts just syrup.

Taste is very weird, bitter root almost wormwood bitter, earthy spices that really get weird and unpleasant, little syrupy, sticky but dry, more dried green very fruit like linden berry out goose berry. Finish very dry feeling but sweet tasting, bitter earthy root thing lingering, bitter nagging spices.

Mouth is med to lighter bod, more like syrupy soda than a beer no malt body, decent carb.

Overall eh.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a dark brown hue with a fat two finger head that fades to leave thin blanket. Very soda like.

S - Aromas of a spicy soda. Almost root beer like. Or sasparilla. No actual malts either, just sugars. Really interesting with nice light fruitiness.

T - Taste is similar to to the nose for a moment. Sugary sweet, incredibly bitter on the finish. There are lots of spice notes, almost wormwood like, oaky, odd dried berries (talking botanicals). Drinks boozy too, quite syrupy.

M - Mouthfeel is brightly carbonated, sticky, soda like.

O - Overall this beer started very nice on the nose, however, the taste is way too sticky and sweet with very odd spice notes.

Well, they certainly seem to have hit the mark here... at least in terms of imitating cola. Very cola like in aroma and flavor with a sweetness that is even just about right. It is very strange overall, I am impressed but not necessarily pleased. Maybe they should mass market this? It seems like it would go over very well along side the likes of Not Your Dad's, probably better than it will with the BA crowd.

Large shared bottle into a tulip glass.
Mouthfeel: Light carbonation medium body.
Aroma: lightly fruity.
Flavor: lightly sour; moderately lemon-lime. A couple of others at the tasting session thought this tasted more than a little like a lemon soda.

Appearance: Pitch black, off white head.

Aroma: Smells like cola, vanilla icing and root beer.

Flavor: Bitter tree bark, ginger spices, way off the nose and one of the least sweet Bruery beer I've ever had.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a drying finish.

It didn't take too long for me to pour this right down the drain. While the cinematic allusion is pleasant enough, the beer is horrendous: sweet, sugary, gross. While I am usually a fan of all things Bruery, this one missed the mark completely. I appreciate innovation and the risk they took in trying something new; however, this one didn't do it for me at all. So, -- "Hey, let's pop some Viagras and issue tickets with raging, mega-huge boners." But lets avoid this beer.

This has got to be the worst "beer" I have ever had the displeasure of opening. This was an embarrassment to anyone who paid for a Bruery society quality beer.

Look: very much like cola
smell: the toilet bowl after a long night of drinking rum and coke
Taste: like a cuba libre made by a chimpanzee
Feel: stomach turning, like the feeing after hitting a decent keg stand and taking a shot of Taka brand vodka
Overall: pouring Busch Light in a can of diet coke and adding some lime juice can cheaply replicate this horrible beverage. Save yourselves

This beer is just plain awful. It in no way reminds me of cola. I love super troopers... But this is a disgrace meow. Meow I need to find something to get this taste out of my mouth. It tastes like lime-a-rita watered down and then re-fermented.

This is very not good tasting. I was exciting to taste because of the root beer beers that have been so good. This tasted not good at all. Lots of weird lime taste

I had really high hopes for this one. I'm a big soda fan and like the idea of a cola themed beer. This just didnt hit with me though. Lime was very heavy and to me it tasted more like a flat mess. That said, A for effort.

Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass from a capped bottle.

A: Dark brown/black. Dark brown at the edges, very consistent with the appearance of cola. Aggressive pour resulted in two fingers of light brown head that dissipated quickly.
S: Caramel, molasses, ginger, lime. Resembles off brand grocery store colas a little bit.
T: Follows the nose, some sweetness followed by molasses, ginger and lime in the finish.
M: Lots of carbonation, not a huge mouthfeel. Sticky finish.
O: Interesting, but definitely not my deal. Interesting idea but doesn't do much for me.

750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. Bottled 4/21/15. Served in a Bruery snifter.

Pours dark brown with three fingers of fluffy sand-hued head. The froth settles quickly to a thin collar that leaves a couple small flecks of lace.

Smells pretty much like cola with some caramel, lime and sweetener. Not much here but then again cola doesn't smell that great.

Flavors of caramel, lime, cola, mild roast and artificial sweetener. The lime seems to overpower the cola, which is considerably less sweet than it's target beverage. I get the soda notes but this just doesn't taste good.

Fairly thin body with carbonation that seems to vacillate between sharp and moderate. Lots of lime in the finish along with a little more caramel.

L'Deracola is an interesting experiment (and great Super Troopers reference) but something that I don't need to try again. It doesn't help that I'm not a fan of cola to begin with but this just didn't so it for me on any level. Despite my low opinion of this particular brew, I still respect The Bruery for taking chances and trying new things.

Looked great in the glass. . . and was all downhill from there. Tasted like diet dogshyt with some extra carbonation at the end. Doesn't live up to its name or the classic movie it came from...

Bottled 4/21/15.

Pours an almost opaque crimson-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of generic cola, lime juice, lime pulp, earth, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with generic cola, lime zest, lime juice, spice, and toast flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with distinct and unique cola flavors upon each sip, but the aftertaste is definitely more beer like to me.

Serving type: bottle.
