Notes / Commercial Description:
Prairie Rue is a collaboration that was born out of years of admiration and friendship between the founders of Prairie Artisan Ales and The Bruery & Bruery Terreux. Using hops chosen for their lemony and floral aroma plus 100% Munich malt, this farmhouse ale was barrel-fermented in oak with several strains of brettanomyces, revealing pleasant wafts of prairie grains, orange blossom honey and lemony-floral funk. A refreshing, crisp bready backbone is complimented by a balance of citrus hop flavors and woody, earthy flavors and spice characters. When thinking about this beer, it’s hard to say whether it’s more of a Prairie beer or a Bruery Terreux beer. And that’s exactly how collaborations should be.

2015 Vintage
Appearance: Slightly cloudy dark-amber color with a generous white head that slowly subsided. Good looking beer that’s on the dark side of the spectrum for a Farmhouse ale. 4.5

Smell: Strong pear notes with mild hay/grassy notes, and mild barnyard funk. 4.5

Taste: Mild pear fruit notes, mild grassy/hay notes, and mild funk notes. The beer finishes with mild fruit and mild grassy/hay notes. 3.75

Mouth-feel: Medium-bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Body thicker than a typical Farmhouse ale. 3.75

Overall: Not a prototypical Farmhouse ale (a bit thicker than typical) but a good hot weather beer. 3.75

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep bronze topped by three fingers of dense off white head that retains well and leaves decent lacing
S: Smells of citrus and spicy yeast with a little hint of funk
T: Taste is a little citrus, some nice malty notes, slight funk with just a hint of tartness and some spice. This one is just a little chalky as well. Swallow is more chalky notes with more spice and some grassy notes with hints of lingering funk.
M: This beer has a medium mouthfeel with adequate carbonation and a drying finish
O: Overall this one is pretty good. It has a lot of those classic saison notes with some slight kinks with the light funk and hints of sourness. It'll be interesting to see how this one changes over time.

Oak, some caramel like flavor. Balance is a tad off. More tart than sour.

Pours a slightly orange-golden yellow color with a fluffy white head. Aromas and flavors of pears, hay, grass, and some barnyard funk on the back end. Medium body and carbonation. Very nice collaboration here.
