L: Golden hazy body, head shrinks rapidly
S: Sweet, tart, fruity. Apple, cherry, oak, white grape, and a bit of funk. Really great aroma, plenty of complexity.
T: Much more tart than the nose. Tart fruit, green apple, lime, and sea salt. A bit of oak and funk, and a touch of wheaty malt on the finish.
F: Puckering and acidic. Salt on the lips.
O: A big, unapologetic sour beer, not a juice, not a wine.

Canned 12/31/20

Having an oaked Berliner is not something I’m sure I’ve had before. Nevertheless, it sounds like a really interesting concept, basically a Weisse-centric version of Almanac’s Sournova series. I’m pretty excited to try this one so let’s just dive right in

Pours a cloudy deep orange with a finger of off white head that very quickly fades to nothing and leaves no lacing

This has some nice depth in the aroma, but it’s definitely sharply fruity and tart. I’m picking up on aromas of passion fruit, coriander, lime, funky leather, smooth oak, and wheat bread

This is a straight up sour bomb in taste, but it has great nuances, with the light funk balancing out the fruit. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon peel, bready malt, pineapple, passion fruit, straw, and white wine. The swallow brings notes of super tart passion fruit, pineapple, light grapefruit, buttery oak, light leather, crackery malt, and tangerine

A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a crisp and tart beer. Finishes mostly dry with a slight film left in the mouth, but washed away by the tartness

Delicious and easy drinking, I could throw this one back for a while. Always nice to find something that’s simultaneously light and flavorful

Pours a hazy dark yellow from the can, briefest effervescent white head that fades to nothing, no lacing. Nose is strong with passion fruit, yeasty bread, general sour, salt, brackish water. Taste is very sour forward, but completely in line with the style - light fruity sweetness (very reminiscent of a starfruit), though I'd certainly buy passion fruit; young, yeasty bread; and big lactic sour notes. Mouthfeel is on the thing side but with crisp and refreshing carbonation. Could see this as a great summer refresher.

Purchased at Total Wine and More - River Edge NJ. Oak Foeder soured Berliner Weiss with Passion fruit.

A: Pours very hazy yellow, with orange highlights. Head dissipates quickly like ginger ale fizz.

S: Mostly aromas of passion fruit and oak. The crisp, vinous character of the passion fruit is clearly most dominant.

T: Sour passion fruit, oak tannins, candied lemon peel, maybe a touch of bright wheat underneath all of it. It is quite straightforward, but everything works well. Aftertaste is almost a little funky, but citric as well.

F: Sourness is excellent, nothing noticeably off. As soon as it hits my palate is starts with a salivary reaction and lightly puckering effect.

Much more tame than a lot of oak aged sours I find, it does pretty good for what it is. Narrow but not boring complexity, an interesting mouthfeel and mix of its fruits with oak character.

Good head production for the style; quickly gone. Body is quite hazy, lively, and a peachy shade of orange.

Peach, passion fruit, oak, and tannins on the nose. Fairly light and straight forward, but very inviting.

Impressively sour on the palate, imparting sharp tones of citric acid and vinegar. Very puckering. Before the sourness has completely faded, the passion fruit comes along and adds a wonderfully natural and organic fruity sweetness. After the sourness has crested, the fruit has its own moment to shine, it too then fading into a neutral, light malt and wheat finish.

This beer would be absolutely crushable if not for the extreme sourness - exactly where I want this beer.

A - pours a clear gold. Initially forms a large head that very quickly dissipates. Heavy carbonation.

S - Despite its sour nature, still smells like a wheat beer! Familiar smells of wheat combine with passionfruit for a nice if not wonderful nose.

T - Much sourer than you may expect. Hits upfront with puckering tartness that gives way to passionfruit flavors. Finish leaves a lingering passionfruit impression.

M - Light bodied and dry. Carbonation is nominal, not overly carbonated but rather bubbly all the same. Rather dry, but allows for the passionfruit flavor to shine and persist.

O - A solid if not remarkable entry in the Frucht series, a great summer sour. Light, low ABV, and a pretty delicious passionfruit flavor. Doesn't stand with Terreux's best beers, but a respectable offering at a great price.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a light golden orange topped by a dense and slightly rocky two and a half fingers of white head which fade quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of light sourness, passion fruit, and some creamy wheat along with a hint of vanilla which could be in my head.
T: Taste is a nice sourness with some lemony zing, passion fruit, creamy wheat and slight vanilla. On the swallow there's more sourness, passion fruit, creamy wheat and vanilla with some lingering tartness.
M: This beer has a body which is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is effervescent and slightly prickly while the beer has a drying finish from the acidity.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. It has some great flavors and some decent complexity without being super heavy. This is definitely a great beer to enjoy on a hot day. Well worth a try if this one comes back and you like the style.
