Style: American Strong Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.70%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Dodie is inspired by a classic New York concoction and shares a nickname with Grandma Rue, who was quite keen on the ritzy drink. It’s got no giggle juice on its rap sheet, but it’s a dandy recreation of the profile of a classic Manhattan cocktail - from the grain (rye, corn, wheat and barley), bourbon character from barrel-aging, and a complex blend of 30+ spices and grape must for bitters-eque and vermouth-like notes. Fancy a garnish? We saved you a step. Cherries and orange zest come out as your kisser hits glass.

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice clear brown with a thin head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of big sweet bourbon, light cherries, and winter warmer spices. Finish is huge booze.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with big boozy barrel, winter warmer spices, super faint cherries, little bit of orange.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, syrupy and boozy.

O - Overall this was a very underwhelming beer, super boozy and disappointing.

Split with rudzud
Decent fizzy head fades semi quickly, slightly clear hazy auburn mahogany color

Nose is just a melange of spices and herb things, orange zest, a touch of cherry syrupy, a touch of grape must maybe, weird bitters and winter warmer spices, a bit of bourbony note, and booze syrupy malt

Taste big sweet bourbon and toasted oak, big wood, some syrupy cherries, lots of bitters and icky winter spices, bad perfumey and pepperminty like alcohol, little orange zest potpourri, icky weird bitterness too

Mouth is med to heavier bod, syrupy, big booze, fluffy carb

Overall terrible

Poured from the bottle into a cocktail glass. Get out of here seriously, oh we are so going for it as suggested!

No head created, big surprise there, with a body color that's actual quite nice. Dark chestnut brown, but also quite a good mix of red and orange colors on the edges and bottom.

Real nice aroma, and certainly does smell like a good cocktail. Caramel and whiskey warm but also very malt thick. Hints of cherry and grape in there as well which is a real nice touch. Big round sensing flavor and touches of oak. They even got the orange peel in this with lots of spicy whiskey like tones as well. This is just great, and I am loving the cocktail angle this is really ingenious so far.

The palate has taken us back to earth on first sip, but not letting go of the whole cocktail experience. Warm sensing whiskey and just cocktail light with a good alcohol kick. Light caramel and good butterscotch bourbon tones in the mid palate. Excellent sensing cherry and orange with a vermouth like herbal mix as well. Finishes warm and rustic, with a light whiskey like body and heat.

They really nailed the cocktail angle on this for brew so impeccably well. From the caramel, to the light body, the heat and spice, even to the cocktail cherry just a flat out fun brew to drink.

L - It has the typical Bruery strong ale look. Murky brown body with a one finger tan head.

S - At first, it seems like a faint whiff of infection. Good amount of bourbon comes in with orange zest.

T - Bourbon, caramel and grape must leads way to cherries in the middle. Orange zest and spices show up at the end. Cold, the flavors don't really shine. But, let it warm to room temperature and the flavors really come alive.

F - Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Sort of has a wet-dry finish.

O - Another interesting mocktail beer that kept me entertained.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep ruby-Amber color with a small foamy white head that reduces completely

S- smells of grape skin, marichino cherries, orange peel, light bourbon and bitters

T- orange peel with sweet cherries followed by grape skin, ,light bourbon barrel, some peppery rye-like spice, the finish gives more citrus and cherry

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and finish

O- decent attempt at a Manhattan flavored beer

750ml bottle into a tulip appears a brownish color with a khaki cap.

The aroma has some cherry pit quality, minerals, and some tang/metallic aspect.

The taste is caramel, molasses, slight oak, cherry and overall displays somewhat of a medicinal feel.

This is medium in body with moderate to light carbonation. Its interesting and warming with alcohol but I just dont "get" it.
