Thanks, Chris!

Excited to try this one, despite only giving the Chronology:6 version a 3.90. Huge fan of the style and by style I mean the Barrel-Aged Wee Heavy style. Going to try and compare the 12 and 18 versions tonight. Hopefully can taste a difference. Can’t wait to get this underway.

Poured a chestnut brown opaque color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki tan frothy head. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Decent watery lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.25)

Smelled smooth bourbon, caramel, buttery toffee, leathery oak, butterscotch, toasted brown sugar, vanilla, maple syrup, cinnamon (!?!?!) late and even faint horchata. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste followed the nose. A lot smoother than I remember the Chronology:6. Got smooth warming bourbon, toffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, maple syrup, oaky leather and woody butterscotch. (Taste - 4.25)

Medium-to-full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Much better than the 6 version to me. Time did wonders for sure. (Overall - 4.25)

Split with rudzud
Decent foamy bubbly off white head, good lacing, dark chestnut brown colour

Nose similar to the 6 bit extra bourbon, sweet barrel, vanilla bourbon, sweet brown sugar, caramel and toffee, dark fruits, dark fruit candied

Taste sweet candy malt, toffee, caramel, mild sweet bourbon, vanilla barrel, similar to the 6 month, alcohol a bit higher, more candied dark fruits, barrel char

Mouth is fuller bod, medium carb, medium hot alcohol

Overall good but not anything better than the 6 month

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black hue with a thin mocha head and a foamy halo.

S - Big aromas of caramel, toffee, and dark fruits. Light vanilla. Getting an almost red wine aroma though.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of caramel and toffee. Loads of creamy vanilla, candy caramel cream. Lovely malts.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy, alcohol hidden incredibly well. Practically luscious.

O -Overall this was a very solid scotch ale. Excellent caramel and vanilla. Super easy to drink.

Bottle into a snifter appears hazy brown in color with a khaki head.

It smells of brown sugar and boozy caramel.

It tastes woody with oak, vanilla, caramel and a bit of herbal bitterness before finishing with some toasted coconut.

This is medium to fuller in body with modest carbonation. Not hugely different from the 6 month version but different enough that the barrel flavors are less harsh and more enjoyable.

Serving Type: Bottle (dated 6.17.16)
Consumed: 8.8.16

A: 4.25 A little murky, but a nice reddish-caramel color with a dense, light tan head. Good retention and leaves a bit of lace behind after a few minutes.

S: 4.25 Damp oak and oats lead things off, but it quickly evolves into aromas of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, raisins, and a hint of freshly ground coffee. Subtle cinnamon and clove fill in the background.

T: 4.5 Really nice balance of sweetness, bourbon, and malt. Starts off a bit sweet with plenty of rich caramel and malt before seamlessly moving into lots of vanilla, bourbon and a little sherry. A tiny bit of roast lingers on the slightly bitter finish.

M: 4.75 Creamy, substantial body with perfect carbonation. Pretty easy-drinking too, considering the strength.

O: 4.5 I’m not sure if extra time in the barrel improved this beer, per se. It was great at 6 months and it’s great now. The aroma may have gotten a bit off track, but the balance of great flavors makes up for it.

Serving Type: Growler filled in 2016 RS hydroflask growler on 7-27-16. Stored at 38F until raised to serving temperature.

Appearance: Cloudy medium-brown in color with a modestly sized medium-beige head that dissipated quickly.

Smell: Predominantly Bourbon , mild brown sugar, and very faint toffee notes. No real alcohol alcohol presence in the nose though it's 14.1% ABV.

Taste: The Bourbon dominates with mild brown sugar, and very mild oak tannic notes. The Bourbon with the 12 month bal-aging eclipses almost all the scotch ale base. The alcohol presence is very restrained for the listed ABV.

Mouth-feel: On the light side of medium-bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation.

Overall: The wee heavy base in comparison to Chronology 6 is pretty much buried underneath the bal-aging. While the base beer does mildly appear as the beer warms I'm wondering what will happen with any additional bal-aging.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep ruddy brown topped by a finger and a half of dense and slightly rocky light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of sticky toffee, oak and vanilla. Slight toasted malts as well. You can tell this one has a lot of time in barrels.
T: Taste is toffee and caramel up front with a nice hit of oak and slight woody spice. Slightly fruity before vanilla and caramel come in along with some slight toasted malt notes. This one is definitely barrel forward but there is a slight fruitiness to it. On the swallow this one is more toffee, caramel, fruitiness, vanilla and oak.
M: This beer is surprisingly light in body for the abv sitting at about a medium. It's a little slick but not overly so. Meanwhile the carbonation is effervescent but not prickly while the beer has a drying finish from the ABV.
O: Overall this one isn't bad at all. Really nice complexity and flavors. The barrel aging complements the base beer well and this one doesn't seem to be over barreled at all. It's worth a try if you can find it or have been sitting on this one.

Dirty aqua blue wax dipped 750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. Bottled 6/17/16. Served in a Bruery snifter.

Pours a murky dark brown with a finger and a half of pale head. A few specks of retention decorate the surface and the thin rail leaves no lacing.

Aromas of bourbon, oak, cooked caramel, toast and a little toffee.

Tastes of sweet (but a bit thin) bourbon, cooked caramel, faint chocolate, raisin toast, wet wood and booze. Despite the obvious alcohol heat this hides its 14%+ abv quite well.

Medium full feel with subdued carbonation. The aftertaste brings to mind bourbon-drizzled caramel raisin bread.

The Bruery Chronology experiment continues. This 12 month version of their wee heavy is mighty fine in its own right but still best for it's comparative value next to others in the series.
