October 4th, 2016 - Auburn and foxy in color, the aroma is as bright as the tropical sun. Tart and sour, it shows off all three sides of the iconic Hawaiian POG juice: passion fruit, orange and guava. I catch the same trio in the flavor, with special emphasis on the guava with it's somewhat deeper sweetness. There's also a little shine of lychee, rounding out this Big Island experience.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a clear and bright gold beer which is topped by a dense and fluffy four fingers of white head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of tropical fruits, raspberries, nice tartness, some creamy wheat notes, and some faint spices
T: Taste is bright passionfruit mixed with raspberries, some grape skins, slight minerality, a little spice, and a nice tartness throughout. On the swallow there's more passion fruit, a near fruit punch like flavor, raspberries, creamy wheat, oak, and some lingering white grape skins.
M: This beer is fairly light in body but it is not watery. Carbonation is effervescent and slightly prickly while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this is a really interesting beer. It has some nice flavors and a good amount of complexity. Not sure what to expect but it isn't bad according to my palate. Overall I feel that it likely aged well but the white wine like notes were not quite expected. They fit in well though.

Whatever happened to this beer? Wasn't it supposed to see national year round distribution? Never saw it. But I did get a chance to have it at the source. Pours a golden color with equal parts light orange to it. Good 1/2" white head on a wild ale, dig it. What's that smell? Hibiscus? Seems like that comes out more than the raspberry and fruit. Then the spice rack is next.

Taste is nicely tart and fun to drink, the spice rack fades and the fruit comes forward. The body is light, the alcohol is hidden. I'm digging this right out the gate. Kinda wish I would have bought a bunch, but I held off bc I was under the impression it was distributed and it would end up like most sour Bruery products locally: reduced 50% when it didn't sell at whatever initial price point. The apparent oak usage helps keep the mouth feel dry after running the gauntlet of good flavors. The wheat keeps the levity in the body. I dunno, this screams summer and delicious to me, wish it was more plentiful.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/8/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 2-3 finger fairly dense and fluffy off whit head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy raspberries, passion fruit, cranberry, fruit skin/seeds, hibiscus, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, mango, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, passion fruit, raspberry, hibiscus; moderate spices, oak, and pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge sour/tart/tangy raspberries, passion fruit, cranberry, fruit skin/seeds, hibiscus, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, mango, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy berries, passion fruit, fruit skin/seeds, hibiscus, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, mango, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light leathery/musty/funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, passion fruit, raspberry, hibiscus; moderate spices, oak, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/sour/spiciness balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sour/spiciness, and carbonation. High carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, and moderately bready/grainy/acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. No warming alcohol for 7.1%. Overall this is an incredible fruited sour/wild ale. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, passion fruit, raspberry, hibiscus; moderate spices, oak, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink with the moderately acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Amazing balance of juicy fruits/hibiscus, and Brett/Bacteria complexity; with great oak foeder presence, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Zero residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A highly enjoyable offering and top tier style example. Not much spice presence after 3 years as expected.

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear golden berry hue with a thin white head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Light aromas of hibiscus and passion fruit. A definite shell of its former self.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with flashes of tropical passion fruit along with hibiscus. Finish is a bit sweet.

M - Mouthfeel is very brightly carbonated, aggressive so. Wasn't like this when fresh.

O - Overall this was a very good beer when fresh but now it's a shell of its former self. Incredibly disappointing.

750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. Bottled 8/8/16. Served in a Bruery snifter.

Pours an opaque rose pink hue with a three finger pillar of pale pink head. The foam crackles away gradually to a thin veneer and modest rim, leaving very little to call lacing.

Smells of raspberries, passion fruit, wet oak and some vague floral spice. Very enjoyable fruit notes.

A strong, puckering sour tropical fruit flavor hits the palate first. Sweetly floral hibiscus, raspberries, passion fruit, soured wheat grain, funky wet wood and some faint earthy spice. The fruit works well with the base and those floral and spice additions.

Medium body with lightly fizzing carbonation. I can't precisely place the earthy, floral spice that creeps into the finish but it mixes well with the sour tropical/ berry punch and funky oak.

More quality work out of Bruery Terreux. Wiki Wiki Tart has vibrant sour fruit character with some interesting floral, funky, spicey and oaky highlights. I'd love to see the raspberry and passion fruit combination return.

Look: A fizzy, copper orange beer with a pinkish/white, extremely carbonated three finger head of foam. Careful opening this one, the head shot out of my bottle the second I pop'd the cap.

Aroma: Has a tart, floral, medicinal smell to it. Passionfruit and raspberry is definitely detectable on the nose. I'm also getting aromas of lemon rind and mild honey.

Taste: Tangy with sharp notes of passionfruit and slightly creamy lemon meringue. Fruity, sweet notes of raspberries and herbal hibiscus linger on the finish, as well as very faint notes of cherries. Sour, sweet and slightly dry throughout.

Feel: Medium bodied, highly carbonated. Very tart and moderately alcoholic. Actually quite refreshing to a degree once you acclimate to the sourness.

Overall: An interesting interpretation of the style. A little rough around the edges, but still pretty tasty. I doubt it will knock your socks off and blow your hair back, but if you like sour ales this isn't bad at all.

I should also note the bottle I'm sampling is slightly aged, so take this review with a grain of salt. Would be interested in trying this fresh.

L - Pours a pinkish amber body with a paper white two finger head.

S - Tart & fruity. Some oak. Hibiscus notes.

T - Again, tart & fruity. Hibiscus floral notes. Oak & a grainy aspect.

F - Light bodied and high carbonation. Dry finish.

O - Super drinkable and the abv/tartness level I wish the Bruery would focus on.
